The skull of a 2,000-year-old foal and the skeleton of a Roman woman have been found in Buckinghamshire

The excavation at the nine-acre site revealed a major trade and residential trackway used during the Iron Age.

“There were flints found mixed within the bones. It’s not yet know whether this was a Roman foal or whether it dates to earlier Iron Age times.

“The trackway appears Roman in style – straight and defined by ditches.

“When viewed on maps of the county it appears to align with the projected course of the Lower Icknield Way and therefore may have origins in the Iron Age or earlier.”

An open day last week allowed the public to see some of the discoveries from the project near Stablebridge Road, where up to 48 homes will be developed following an archaeological investigation which will provide its finds to the Bucks County Museum.

A full report will be made available through the Historic Environment Record.
