About the Nordic Heritage Museum

Visit a place where history comes alive and contemporary artists and community activities are celebrated with vibrant exhibits and events. Dedicated to collecting, preserving, and educating since its founding in 1980, the Nordic Heritage Museum is the only museum in the United States to honor the legacy of immigrants from the five Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

Make your events unforgettable in an historic 1907 red brick building. Located in the heart of Seattle's Ballard neighborhood on a quiet, tree-lined residential street, the building is rich with vintage architectural details. A beautiful auditorium with large windows, wood floors, and a fully equipped kitchen, and three classrooms are available for rent at the Nordic Heritage Museum.

Finland: Designed Environments looks at the explosion of creativity in Finnish design over the last 15 years. Examples of furnishings, fashion, and craft, as well as architecture and urbanism, illustrate how nearly every aspect of Finnish life incorporates thoughtful design thinking—from city streets and summer homes to fashion and food—and is marked by sensitivity to form and material. The exhibition is the first significant U.S. museum presentation since the 1990s to examine contemporary Finnish design.

Organized by the Minneapolis Institute of Arts

From the Artistic Director

Welcome to the 2015 Mostly Nordic Season. This year, we celebrate twenty years of presenting Nordic chamber music performed by acclaimed musicians from across the globe. This season, we will capture the magic of rarely heard masterpieces, and sample the many moods of the Nordic landscape. Join us for the full season to journey through the Nordic countries, or compose your own program by purchasing single tickets for each concert.

We encourage you to join us following each concert for a smörgåsbord of gourmet delicacies from the featured country. Additionally, admission to all Nordic Heritage Museum exhibits is included with purchase of your concert ticket.

Help us celebrate twenty years of Mostly Nordic. Here’s to another twenty more!
