The Devonport Historical and Museum Society Inc. was formed in 1977.

The Devonport Museum specialises in memorabilia, photographs and records pertaining to the history of Devonport.

We are located in the beautiful Mt Cambria reserve at 33A Vauxhall Road.
This is a short 15 minute walk from the village shops, along the Devonport waterfront and then up Church St past the historic Holy Trinity Church and bear right into Vauxhall Road.

We currently have about a hundred members and a committee of 12.

We maintain and develop the Devonport Museum located on Cambria Reserve in Vauxhall Rd, Devonport. The Museum is housed in the old Presbyterian Church and was relocated from Church St in 1978.

We run several events a year to promote the Museum.

The Museum is staffed on a volunteer basis by local Community members and is open from 2pm - 4 pm on weekends. Admission is free, but a small donation would be appreciated.

We have a number of Projects in development.

You may also like to visit the About Volunteering and Becoming a Member sections of this website.

We gratefully acknowledge the North Shore City Council for support given over the years.

Satellite Exhibitions

The Museum has a display of large historic pictures of Victorian Devonport in the Ferry Wharf building.

In the old Devonport Borough Council building, next to the Esplanade Hotel, there is a special display to support the War Memorial across the road. Photos and details of almost all of the people named on the memorial are on display in an upstairs room in this historic building.
The room is usually open during Council office hours. If it is not open, Council staff are able to unlock it for you.

The Arcade of shops, a few doors up Victoria Road, has a display of photo boards about old Devonport.
The photos and research were largely sourced through our Museum.

The Devonport Museum is one of the stops on the The Old Devonport Walk brochure, a project of The Rotary Club of Devonport. Pick one up from one of the various locations around Devonport including the Museum and the Devonport Visitor Information Centre.
