Dolenjskega muzeja -- Dolenjska Museum

Zgodovina

Prva zamisel o ustanovitvi Dolenjskega muzeja, ki naj bi zbiral različna pričevanja iz zgodovine mesta in Dolenjske, se je pojavila leta 1865, ob praznovanju 500. obletnice Novega mesta. Nadalje si je za ustanovitev muzeja več let prizadevalo (leta 1941 ustanovljeno) Muzejsko društvo, v katerega so se združili dolenjski izobraženci, ki so začeli načrtno zbirati muzejsko gradivo. Društvo je težnje po ustanovitvi izkazovalo vse do leta 1950, ko je natanko po petinosemdesetih letih od prve zamisli, vendarle prišlo do težko pričakovane ustanovitve muzeja. Tistega leta je namreč Ljudski odbor Ljubljanske oblasti z odločbo z dne 1. junija 1950 predal muzej v pristojnost Okrajnega ljudskega odbora Novo mesto. Od takrat praznujemo na ta dan rojstni dan Dolenjskega muzeja, ki ga javno obeležujemo z dnevom odprtih vrat, celodnevnim raznovrstnim programom, in od leta 1996 dalje, s tradicionalno razstavo Iz depojev Dolenjskega muzeja.




Prve stalne razstave Dolenjskega muzeja so bile odprte leta 1953 v stavbi Križatije, kjer je bil od leta 1951 tudi sedež muzeja. Od takrat dalje se je kot pokrajinski splošni muzej vse bolj širil in krepil do sredine osemdesetih let, ko je z Jakčevim domom in sredi devetdesetih let z dislocirano enoto Kočevski rog dobil današnjo podobo. Kompleks muzeja se je iz ene razširil na štiri stavbe in dislocirani enoti Jakčev dom ter Kočevski rog. Skupaj ima danes na ogled osem stalnih razstav, pet kustodiatov, pedagoško službo in konservatorsko-restavratorsko službo za arheološko gradivo. V galeriji muzeja, kot osrednjem razstavnem prostoru, se vrstijo občasne velike muzejske razstave.

Z bogatim in raznovrstnim razstavnim programom, raziskovalno in publicistično dejavnostjo ter razvejenim in načrtnim pedagoškim delom je muzej postal kakovostno središče kulturnega ustvarjanja in dogajanja v Novem mestu.
