ROXANNE FAY: “A LITTLE FREUDIAN SLIP: DALI DREAMS DA VINCI” -- A CENTURY OF SALVADOR DALI

Salvador Dali has devised a bizarre, uniquely Dalinian way to remember dreams- and to test his methods, he has decided to dream the creator of dreams with the help of the interpreter of dreams. Aided by Freud’s study and interpretation of Leonardo da Vinci’s childhood dream, Dali will dream da Vinci in to being present in the room.

As Dali dozes, da Vinci materializes and wonders what this odd man before him could want to know about him, and not entirely pleased with Freud’s assessment of his psyche. In words and images, da Vinci imparts the story of his path of genius to the audience while instructing the sleeping Dali on the destiny of the artist and his art.

Discover the notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci, his own words and the story of the loves of his life- both the human and the machine.

Written exclusively for the Dali Museum’s current exhibit by the Dali’s theatre coordinator, Roxanne Fay,and starring David Mann as Leonardo da Vinci.

Reflorir

Decidi certa vez por estranha jornada.
Supunha encontrar, por ponto de chegada,
 o autoconhecimento, e como tal,
 quietaria o passo exausto afinal...

e a custo, cruzei fronteiras do autoperdão...

Acenando em despedida a muitos regalos,
acumulei sob os pés dezenas de calos,
e prossigo tentando reflorir meu chão...

Reflorir

I decided once by strange journey.
Supposed to find, point of arrival,
  self-knowledge, and as such,
quietaria the exhausted step after all ...

The think so, given the sleeves too cloth,
because leagues beyond, how sad and Ledo mistake:
then the destination in origin becomes ...
.... but it was different, and I'd be inert ...

On the road, proceed only left me!
Miles ahead were no lack ...
and the cost, crossed boundaries of self-forgiveness ...

Waving goodbye to many treats,
  accumulated underfoot dozens of calluses,
and I continue trying reflorir my ground ...

Haghpat Monastery, also known as Haghpatavank ("Հաղպատավանք" in Armenian), is a medieval Armenian monastery complex in Haghpat, Armenia.

The monastery was founded by Queen Khosrovanuysh, wife of the Bagratid king Ashot III, probably in 976. The nearby monastery at Sanahin was built around the same time.

The location of Haghpat Monastery was chosen so that it overlooks the Debed River in northern Armenia's Lori region. It was built, not on a peak, but halfway up a hillside on a site chosen to afford protection and concealment from prying eyes and also in response to a kind of monastic humility. It is built on a verdant promontory located in the middle of a mountain cirque, which is often wreathed in clouds. A peak on the opposite side of the river is over 2,500 meters high. The monasteries of northern Armenia are not isolated, unlike their counterparts in the country's arid regions. They were built in a village environment and Haghpat is surrounded by many hamlets.

The largest church in the complex, the Cathedral of Surb Nishan, probably begun in 976, was completed in 991 by king Smbat. It is a typical example of tenth century Armenian architecture, its central dome rests on the four imposing pillars of the lateral walls. The outside walls are dotted with triangular recesses. A fresco in the apse depicts Christ Pantocrator. Its donor, the Armenian Prince Khutulukhaga, is depicted in the south transept (a transversal nave intersecting the main nave). The sons of the church's founder, Princes Smbat and Kurike, are shown with Queen Khosravanuysh in a bas-relief on the east gable. Apart from one or two minor restorations carried out in the eleventh and twelfth centuries, the church has retained its original character.

There are several other structures at the site as well. There is the small domed Church of Sourb Grigor (St. Gregory ) from 1005. Two side chapels were added to the original church; the larger one built in the beginning of the 13th century and the smaller, known as "Hamazasp House", built in 1257. In 1245, a three-story tall free-standing belltower was constructed. Other 13th century additions include the chapel of Sourb Astvatsatsin, the scriptorium, and a large refectory which is outside of the monastery limits.

There are also a number of splendid khachkars (cross-stones) of the 11th-13th centuries standing on the territory of the monastery, the best known among them is the "Amenaprkich" (All-Savior) khachkar which has been standing since 1273.

The monastery has been damaged many times. Sometime around 1130, an earthquake destroyed parts of Haghpat Monastery and it was not restored until fifty years later. It also suffered numerous attacks by armed forces in the many centuries of its existence and from a major earthquake in 1988. Nevertheless, much of the complex is still intact and stands today without substantial alterations.

Today the area is an increasingly popular tourist site.

Described as a "masterpiece of religious architecture and a major center of learning in the Middle Ages", Haghpat monastery, together with Sanahin monastery, was placed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1996.[4]

The monasteries at Haghpat and Sanahin were chosen as UNESCO World Heritage Sites because:

The two monastic complexes represent the highest flowering of Armenian religious architecture, whose unique style developed from a blending of elements of Byzantine ecclesiastical architecture and the traditional vernacular architecture of the Caucasian region.

Marta Trancu-Rainer, Prima femeie medic chirurg din Romînia -- Marta Trancu-Rainer, The first woman surgeon from Romania

The genesis of the Odisha State Museum goes back to the year 1932, when two notable historians Prof. N. C Banerjee & Prof. Ghanshyam Dash of Ravenshaw College, Cuttack started collection of archaeological treasures from various places.

The small museum was then housed within the premises of the College. In 1938, by a suitable order, the Government of Odisha transformed this nucleus into the Provincial museum of Odisha.

Maintaining close contact with the general public and the Archaeological Department of the Government of India and other States, the Museum continued to grow. In order to popularize the cultural exhibits of the Museum, leaflets printed both in Odia and English were published in the Samaj and the New Odisha and copies of the same were sent to officials and the public to create a sense of awareness about the significance of the Museum. As a result of this publicity, students and the general public started visiting the Museum in large numbers. The teachers of the History Department made sustained efforts to explain to them the cultural value of the Museum and its exhibits.

As a result of this publicity, students and the general public started visiting the Museum in large numbers. The teachers of the History Department made sustained efforts to explain to them the cultural value of the Museum and its exhibits.

Initially, it was only an Archaeological Museum with a collection of sculptures, terracotta, numismatics, copper plates and specimens of fine arts. With the growing interest of the staff and people, the antiquities were reorganized in a systematic manner. Stone sculptures were rearranged in three groups related to their styles: such as Gandhara Art, North Indian Art, Odisha Art, and each group were subdivided into Buddhist, Jain and Brahnmanical images. Terracotta objects and coins were also organised according to the spots they were found in, their age and types.

With the shifting of the State Capital from Cuttack to Bhubaneswar in l947-48, the Provincial Museum was also shifted there. Slowly the collection of antiquities and specimens grew manifold and the necessity of having a special building for the purpose was felt. The foundation stone of this building was laid on 29th December, l957 by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the then President of the Indian Union. Dr. H. K. Mahtab, the then Chief Minister of Odisha and a noted historian himself took the initiative for making the institution a full fledged Museum. The construction of the building along with an administrative block, an auditorium (Kalamandap) and a Guest House was completed in l960 and in the same year the Museum was shifted to the new building. The institution was renamed the Odisha State Museum and in the same year.
