Discoveries have been hidden for decades in the Church of Our Lord of Bonfim in Pirenópolis, Goiás, Brazil.

Pirenópolis won another attraction. After three years of restoration, the Church of Our Lord of Bonfim will be reopened to religious celebrations and tourism in one week. In addition to all the restored and painted structure, the almost 260-year-old building, built by slaves, had the most beautiful and beautiful details fully recovered. Among them, decorative paintings on the side walls of the main altar and much of the wooden ceiling, covered over decades by mass and white paint.

With the restoration, the Church of the Bonfim happens to be the richest temple of Goiás, from the artistic point of view. Since the fire of the Igreja Matriz de Pirenópolis in 2002, the municipality 140km away from Brasilia had no more temple with all the original features. In Goiás Velho, the other historical city of the state, there is also no church with as many ornaments as Bonfim.

This was the first complete reform of the Church of Our Lord of Bonfim. In 2005, it underwent structural works, which included the restoration of the facade and the painting inside. For lack of money, the Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage (Iphan) did not restore the art elements. At the cost of R $ 600,000, the work began in 2010. At first, scraping the plaster and the white paint inside the building, technicians hired by Iphan had the pleasant surprise.

Logo no começo, raspando o reboco e a tinta branca do interior do edifício, técnicos contratados pelo Iphan tiveram a grata surpresa.
