Unesco adds to its list the set of daily and festive traditions cultivated in Belgium around the fermented drink. Country has almost 1,500 types of beer, with remarkable regional characteristics.
In a decision released on Wednesday (30/11) in Addis Ababa, Unesco declared the Belgian brewery Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In the country that has almost 1,500 varieties of the drink, its production and consumption are part of the culture of life of numerous communities, representing a great role in daily life and on festive occasions, justified the organization.
It should be noted that the distinction did not belong to the beverage itself, but to the set of cultural manifestations that its manufacture and tasting involve. Throughout the country there are breweries, museums, courses and seminars, events, parties, restaurants and taverns where traditions of beer are cultivated, the German-speaking community of Belgium recalled in a statement. "From time immemorial it is an essential part of our lives," confirmed the governor of the Brussels region, Rudi Vervoort.
Many of the varieties have local origin, distinguishing themselves strongly in aroma, color, consistency and aftertaste. Each one also requires a specific type of glass, as well as an ideal temperature of consumption: this is the only way - according to marketing - that the fermented beverage fully reveals its flavor.
The Intangible Heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) encompasses traditions, customs, customs and craft techniques passed down from generation to generation. In addition to the Belgian brewery culture, the Cuban rumba was chosen as the "symbol of a marginalized society" in 2016 and the New Year celebrations in Iran, Afghanistan and India. The Argentinean tango, the Tibetan opera of China and the procession of the Sacred Blood of the city of Bruges, Belgium, for example, are already on the list of the organization.

No país que dispõe de quase 1.500 variedades da bebida, sua produção e consumo são parte da cultura de vida de numerosas comunidades, representando um grande papel no cotidiano e em ocasiões festivas, justificou a organização.
Note-se que a distinção não coube à bebida em si, mas sim ao conjunto de manifestações culturais que seu fabrico e degustação envolvem. Por todo o país há cervejarias, museus, cursos e seminários, eventos, festas, restaurantes e tavernas em que as tradições relativas à cerveja são cultivadas, lembrou, em comunicado, a comunidade germanófona da Bélgica. "Desde tempos imemoriais ela é uma parte essencial de nossas vidas", confirmou o governador da região de Bruxelas, Rudi Vervoort.
Muitas das variedades têm origem local, distinguindo-se fortemente em aroma, cor, consistência e retrogosto. Cada uma exige também um tipo específico de copo, assim como uma temperatura ideal de consumo: só assim – segundo reza o marketing – a bebida fermentada revela integralmente seu sabor.
O Patrimônio Imaterial da Organização das Nações Unidas para a Educação, a Ciência e a Cultura (Unesco) abarca tradições, costumes, hábitos e técnicas artesanais passadas de geração a geração. Além da cultura belga cervejeira, foram escolhidas em 2016 a rumba cubana, como "símbolo de uma sociedade marginalizada", e as festas de Ano Novo no Irã, Afeganistão e Índia. Já constam da lista da organização o tango argentino, a ópera tibetana da China e a procissão do Sangue Sagrado da cidade de Bruges, na Bélgica, por exemplo.
