What does it mean to be a Sergipe? What is born in Sergipe represents for your identity? More than a historic date, Sergipanity Day celebrated on October 24 marks the customs, art, tradition and the various symbols that form the Sergipe culture, showing the pride of a people for their land.
Data refers to the receipt of the Royal Charter, which demarcated the Sergipean territory of Bahia in 1824, making it an independent state. The episode was carried out in the government of Brigadier Manoel Fernandes da Silveira. From the promulgation of the decree of emancipation, until Sergipe effectively reached its independence, were four years of confrontation between the partisans.
For the Secretary of State for Culture, Elber Batalha, Sergipanity Day represents not only the celebration of the independence of the province, but also the emancipation of the identity of a whole people. "This is a date that increasingly grows in a symbolic way in order to reflect on our culture and identity. It is a moment of appreciation of our literature, music, folk groups, the arts in general and our material and immaterial heritage, "said the secretary.
Constitutional amendment
In 2000, the Legislative Assembly (LA) Board of Governors amended article 47 of the State Constitution in which it was established that the Political Emancipation of the State be celebrated twice a year: July 8 and October 24. Through the Constitutional Amendment, only July 8 was the official date of celebration. The decision was in force, because AL concluded that the date that should remain would be the day that D. João VI signed the decree of emancipation.

O que representa ser um sergipano? O que nascer em Sergipe representa para a sua identidade? Mais do que uma data histórica, o Dia da Sergipanidade, comemorado em 24 outubro marca os costumes, a arte, a tradição e os diversos símbolos que formam a cultura sergipana, mostrando o orgulho de um povo pela sua terra.
Data se refere o recebimento da Carta Régia, que desanexou o território sergipano da Bahia, em 1824, o tornando um Estado independente. O episódio foi protagonizado no governo do brigadeiro Manoel Fernandes da Silveira. Desde a promulgação do decreto de emancipação, até efetivamente Sergipe chegar até sua independência, foram quatro anos de enfrentamento entre os partidários.
Para o secretário de Estado da Cultura, Elber Batalha, o Dia da Sergipanidade não representa apenas a celebração da independência da província, mas também a emancipação da identidade de todo um povo. “Esta é uma data que, cada vez mais, cresce de forma simbólica no sentido de nos fazermos refletir sobre a nossa cultura e identidade. É um momento de valorização da nossa literatura, da música, dos grupos folclóricos, das artes em geral e do nosso patrimônio material e imaterial”, afirmou o secretário.
Emenda Constitucional
No ano 2000, a Mesa Diretora da Assembléia Legislativa (AL) alterou o artigo 47 da Constituição Estadual em que era estabelecido que a Emancipação Política do Estado fosse comemorada duas vezes ao ano: 08 de julho e 24 de outubro. Através da Emenda Constitucional, apenas o 08 de julho ficou como data oficial de celebração. A decisão vigorou, pois a AL concluiu que a data que deveria permanecer seria o dia em que D. João VI assinou o decreto de emancipação.

O Dia da Sergipanidade, comemorado na próxima terça-feira, 24 de outubro, marca os costumes, a tradição, a arte e os diversos símbolos que formam a cultura sergipana, mostrando o orgulho de um povo pela sua terra. É um momento de valorização dos grupos folclóricos, do patrimônio material e imaterial, da literatura e também da música.
Ao longo do tempo, a música sergipana ganhou vida e hoje traz na sua história grandes nomes que contribuíram para esse crescimento. O Especial Sergipanidade contou com a presença de alguns músicos como Chiko Queiroga e Antônio Rogério, além da cantora Raquel Diniz e de Pedro Luan, talentos dessa nova geração.
