Alessandra has already carried out several consultancies that connect design to nature, such as the Votu Hotel project that was fully conceptualized and developed with Biomimicry Thinking.

In addition, she is Professor and lecturer of Biomimética of the AA (Architectural Association) Amazon Visiting School.
Biomimicry Thinking has some similarities with Design Thinking in what it is to understand the essence of challenge and creation and a process of co-creation and interdisciplinary. Fundamentally in Biomimicry Thinking there are two important differences that are the functional part of the challenge and the biological search.
The functional question is to focus on what the design will do "to do" and not what it will be "to be". It does not necessarily need to be created a lamp to illuminate, but rather a process of illumination, because the function in this example is to illuminate. And it is through function that one can connect with nature, for the vast majority of functions are performed by nature.
Returning to the example of enlightenment, how does nature create light? From this moment the scientific research initiated and is chosen which organisms and their mechanisms that perform the functions sought. After this the creation starts based on the chosen mechanism and so is the creation inspired by nature. Biomimetics is the bridge of connects science to design / creation / innovation.

For everything starts from a challenge, from a need to solve a theme, from seeking something better than has already been thought and for this creativity is the key to the process. And because biomimetics occurs in interdisciplinary teams, creativity is the bond of union, it is what connects the universes of design with nature to have a result. Biomimetics is a free path and traced with creativity.
I believe what we learn from biomimetics are several things, such as the high technology played in nature, and through this knowledge we come to have more understanding of the natural system in which we are part.
We learn to observe and connect with the living universe. Observing is one of the most important things, for often the answer is to stop the mind and observe what is around us. A playful and beautiful process. I believe that with Biomimética there is a bottleneck of what is the essence of necessity and this always results in something very innovative.
Any area or segment can apply Biomimetics, because the process starts from a demand, a need to solve a theme or an inspiration.
Many companies are using biomimetics in the construction of products and services, from automotive to construction. Areas such as medicine, infrastructure and consumer goods.

UM CAFÉ COM ALESSANDRA ARAUJO. O QUE É BIOMIMICRY THINKING?

O Biomimicry Thinking tem algumas semelhanças com o Design Thinking naquilo que é entender a essência do desafio e da criação e um processo de cocriação e interdisciplinar. Fundamentalmente no Biomimicry Thinking existem duas importantes diferenças que é a parte funcional do desafio e a busca biológica.
A questão funcional é focar o que o design vai fazer “to do” e não o que será “to be”. Não necessariamente precisa ser criada uma lâmpada para iluminar, mas sim um processo de iluminação, pois a função neste exemplo é iluminar. E é através da função que se pode ligar com a natureza, pois a grande maioria as funções são desempenhadas pela natureza.
Voltando ao exemplo da iluminação, como a natureza cria luz? A partir deste momento a pesquisa científica iniciada e é escolhido quais organismos e seus mecanismos que desempenham as funções buscadas. Após isso a criação inicia baseada no mecanismo escolhido e assim é a criação inspirada na natureza. Biomimética é a ponte de conecta ciência ao design/criação/inovação.
A.criatividade dentro do trabalho. É Plena. Pois tudo se inicia de um desafio, de uma necessidade de resolver um tema, de buscar algo melhor do que já foi pensado e para isso a criatividade é a chave do processo. E como a biomimética ocorre em equipes interdisciplinares, a criatividade é o elo de união, é o que conecta os universos do design com o natureza para tenha um resultado. Biomimética é um caminho livre e trilhado com criatividade.
Acredito o que aprendemos com a biomimética são várias coisas, como a alta tecnologia desempenhada na natureza, e através deste conhecimento passamos a ter mais o entendimento do sistema natural no qual fazemos parte.
Aprendemos a observar e conectar com o universo vivo. Observar é uma das coisas mais importantes, pois muitas vezes a resposta está em pararmos a mente e observar o que está em nossa volta e em nós. Um processo lúdico e belo. Acredito que com a Biomimética há um afunilamento do que é a essência da necessidade e isso sempre resulta em algo muito inovador.
Qualquer área ou segmento pode aplicar Biomimética, pois o processo parte de uma demanda, de uma necessidade de resolver um tema ou de uma inspiração.
Muitas empresas estão usando a biomimética na construção de produtos e serviços, desde segmento automobilístico à construção civil. Áreas como medicina, infra-estrututura e bens de consumo.
