Russia has petitioned the famous Prianik to win new international status. Check out five reasons why sweet Russian has chances ..

Hereditary Revenue

The history of Tula's honey-bread goes back to the 17th century, but there was no single recipe to prepare it. There were many confectioners in Tula, and each of them prepared it in his own way, keeping a well-kept secret that was passed on to his sons and heirs. They also did not use scales to weigh the flour and honey, preferring pebbles or metal kept in an isolated place and with seven keys.

Source of knowledge

This gingerbread was consumed not only to kill hunger, but also as a source of knowledge. The cookies were decorated with letters, syllables and words, so they helped the children to memorize the alphabet. Before eating them, it was common to make the children learn the letters, only to receive a piece or the whole loaf as a reward. Sometimes names were also placed.

Thermometer of love

In the old Rus, there was the tradition of combining before marriages. If the boy was not sure that the girl he liked would accept his request, he would send one of these buns to the suitor; if the girl accepted the present, it was assumed that she would respond positively. During the marriage, the bride and groom would earn prianik in the form of a heart, and the next day the couple would bring the loaves to the bride's parents' house.

Dessert for "giants"

In 1778, on the day St. Petersburg celebrated her birthday, Empress Catherine the Great received a gingerbread and honey from Tula, which weighed more than 30 kilos and was over nine meters in diameter. Beyond the proportions, the delicacy displayed a panorama of the city, which left the empress impressed.

Today, a giant Tula bread can be seen at the local museum dedicated to sweet. In addition, in 2014, the city also won a monument to the famous bread, in which it is possible to read the following inscription: "Tula gingerbread is famous since 1685". According to local sources, this would be the year the city's symbol was born.
Printed Brand

Tula's honey bread is a "printed" product. This means that, first, the producers made a mold with birch or pear tree wood, which was then aged for 5 to 20 years. After drying, the sculptor-artist made a drawing using a mirror and rays of the sun; the shape for the bread could last up to 70 years. To remove the traces of dough, the mold was boiled in oil.

For games and sports

In addition to ordinary gingerbread in the early 20th century and even earlier, people also prepare uncured cakes to be used in games and entertainment during trade shows. One of the joke was to play them as records; the one whose bread roll flew the furthest away. But it was important that the cake did not shatter.

Termômetro do amor
