First Russian superhero movie wins debut date in Brazil

First Russian superhero film, "The Guardians" (from the original, "Zaschitniki") will be released in theaters in Brazil on August 3. The plot takes place during the last years of the Cold War era.

A secret organization called Patriot creates a group of superheroes in the USSR with members from different Soviet republics. After the regime's dissolution, heroes can not find their place in a transformed world and hide among the people. However, when a new threat approaches Russia, the guardians unite again to challenge the forces of evil.

"This movie follows the highest standards in Hollywood," director Sarik Andreasyan told the Russian Gazette. "At the same time, we did not copy Hollywood productions. We create our own mythological universe based on cultural traditions. And in our case, this tradition implies the common Soviet past. "

Each superhero's skill set is related to certain archetypes. "The main hero, the Russian Arsêni, for example, transforms into Arsus, the bear."

The idea, according to Andreasyan, is to expand the product franchise. "We want kids to prefer Arsus to superheroes like Superman and Batman," he said.

"For me, the movie idea is attractive in the first place because the narrative of superheroes is revealed through characters with strong characteristics, values and traditions of the post-Soviet world," says producer Vladimir Polyakov. "In fact, it's time to end the so-called Russian villains and show true guardians."

Another Russian promise for the next few months is the science fiction blockbuster "Attraction" by Fyodor Bondartchuk. Launched in Russia in January, the film was well received by local audiences and sold out to 74 countries, including Brazil.

The film tells the story of a UFO (unidentified flying object) that falls on a Moscow neighborhood after being overthrown by the Russian Aerospace Force. The event forces humanity to question the concepts of existing civilization.
