The poet Bella Akhmadulina really participated, from her youth, the legendary "poetry nights at the Polytechnic Museum" and the even more legendary concerts at the Lujniki stadium.

The poet Bella Akhmadulina, who would turn 80 on Monday (10-04). Bella was, without exaggeration, the most beloved and out of the ordinary poet of the 1960s.

The fact that his name is often reminiscent of that of Ievtuchenko, Andręs Voznessensky and Robert Rojdęstvenski, as artists of the same level is inevitable and unjust.

Inevitably because Bella really participated from the youth, the legendary "nights of poetry at the Polytechnic Museum" and even more legendary concerts at the Lujniki stadium.

But unjust because, unlike Ievtuchenko, who can be called, without irony, "citizen poet," Akhmadulina has always remained a lyrical poet living in a world without civil "ostentation," but a high passion for opera.

Not coincidentally, she also had the outward appearance of a prima donna de fin-de-siècle, with her grandeur on stage and completely helpless mode day by day.

That is why the "Soviet common citizens", including also successful writers, saw her with amazement and admiration.

This is proven by the memories of his contemporaries and, today, by an interview granted by his daughter, Elizaveta Kulieva, a lady of flesh and blood and with the feet in the Earth that works in the marketing field.

It seemed that the spirit of the "Silver Century" had resurrected in this "Soviet aristocrat," daughter of the deputy minister and translator of the UN (which meant, more likely, a KGB agent), plus the niece-granddaughter of a personal friend Of Lenin who is buried by the wall of the Kremlin.

And, along with the intense lyric poems, which are imbedded in the memory immediately, and in which appear characters from past ages and echoes of past feelings, this spirit naturally manifests itself.

It is not a consciously constructed pose or a "game of décadence," like many of the verses of Anna Akmátova and Marina Tsvetáieva.

She did not look. She was. This "secret of success" is very simple. But how few people now, even among artists, are capable of making it happen!

Tsvetáieva.

Fernando Antônio Nogueira Pessoa was one of the most important writers and poets of modernism in Portugal. --- Fernando Pessoa, frequentador assíduo do café "A Brasileira e a Arte".

Fernando Pessoa, assiduous frequenter of coffee "The Brazilian and the Art". In 1925, the Brazilian showcases eleven canvases of seven Portuguese painters of the new generation, who then attended the coffee.

Brasileira do Chiado sold the "genuine coffee from Brazil", a product not very appreciated or even avoided by the housewives of Lisbon at that time. The establishment was founded by Adriano Soares Teles do Vale, grandfather of the filmmaker Luís Galvão Teles. Adriano Teles was born in Cimo d'Aldeia House, in Alvarenga, Arouca county, where, curiously, Fernando Pessoa, a frequent visitor to the café, also had family roots on the paternal side.

As a young man, Adriano Teles emigrated to Brazil. In Brazil, he founded a commercial establishment, initially called "The Fixed Price", which also included a foreign exchange office, and dedicated himself to agricultural production, particularly coffee, which enriched it at the end of the 19th century.

Returned to Portugal in the early twentieth century due to the health problems of his wife, which would eventually die, he created a network of coffee outlets that produced and imported from Brazil: the famous "Brasileiras".

But the founder Adriano Soares was also a man of culture, with an interest in music and painting. He founded the Alvarenga Band, financing the purchase of his first instruments, and made, from Brasileira do Chiado, the first museum of modern art in Lisbon. In Brazil, still in the nineteenth century, passed through the press and politics, having been City Councilman of the city where he married and settled. In 1908, it does a remodeling, creating, then, the coffee shop.

With the liberties of assembly and association after the Implantation of the Portuguese Republic, on October 5, 1910, and the installation of the Republican Directory in Largo de São Carlos (meanwhile renamed Largo do Directorio, precisely on the 1st floor of the building where Fernando was born Pessoa), Brazileira has become one of the busiest coffees in Lisbon due to its proximity.

From that time, the Brazilian was the scene of innumerable intellectual, artistic and literary tertúlias. There, the writers and artists, gathered around the figure of the poet-general Henrique Rosa (the adoptive uncle of Fernando Pessoa), who came to found Orpheu Magazine, passed by.

In 1925, Brazileira presented eleven canvases of seven Portuguese painters of the new generation, who then attended the café, selected by José Pacheko: Almada Negreiros, António Soares, Eduardo Viana, Jorge Barradas (with two paintings each), Bernardo Marques, Stuart Carvalhais and Jose Pacheko himself.

This museum was renovated in 1971 with eleven new paintings by painters of the time: António Palolo, Carlos Calvet, Eduardo Nery, Fernando Azevedo, João Hogan, João Vieira, Joaquim Rodrigo, Manuel Baptista, Nikias Skapinakis, Noronha da Costa and Washer.

With all the importance it has had in the cultural life of the country, the Brazilian Chiado maintains a very unique identity, both for the specificity of its decoration and for the symbology it represents for being linked to circles of intellectuals, writers and renowned artists such as Fernando Pessoa, Almada Negreiros, Santa Rita Pintor, José Pacheko or Abel Manta, among many others. The attendance of Fernando Pessoa motivated the inauguration, in the 1980s, of the bronze statue by Lagoa Henriques, who represents the writer sitting at the table on the esplanade of the coffe.

He was born on June 13, 1888 in the city of Lisbon (Portugal) and died, in the same city, on November 30, 1935.

Fernando Pessoa went to live in Durban (South Africa), where his father became consul. In this country he had contact with English language and literature.

Adult, Fernando Pessoa worked as a technical translator, publishing his first poems in English.

In 1905, he returned alone to Lisbon and, the following year, enrolled in the Superior Course of Letters. However, he quit the course a year later.

Pessoa came to have more effective contact with Portuguese literature, especially Father Antônio Vieira and Cesário Verde. It was also influenced by the philosophical studies of Nietzsche and Schopenhauer. He also received influences from French symbolism.

In 1912, he began his activities as an essayist and literary critic, in the magazine Águia.

The health of the Portuguese poet began to present complications in 1935. This year he was hospitalized with hepatic colic, probably caused by excessive consumption of alcoholic beverage. His premature death, at age 47, probably occurred because of these problems, as he presented cirrhosis of the liver.

The orthonym and the heteronyms of Fernando Pessoa.

Fernando Pessoa used in his works several authorships. He used his own name (orthonym) to sign various works and pseudonyms (heteronyms) to sign others. The heteronyms of Fernando Pessoa had their own personality and differentiated literary characteristics.

Fernando Pessoa, frequentador assíduo do café "A Brasileira e a Arte".

0000 of coffee 000
