"Bring your children to see naked people": Museum d'Orsay campaign will resume in Paris.

A successful communication operation launched in 2015 by the Musée d'Orsay and the Orangerie Museum in Paris to attract more families to the locals will be resumed this October in Paris. One of the campaign posters uses the message: "Bring your children to see naked people."

The operation uses a total of nine posters - displayed on streets, bus stops and subways of Paris - with celebrated works of the two museums allied with funny phrases, always directed at parents and children. Success in social networks, the most successful piece uses the screen "Femme Nue Couchée" (Woman Naked Lying), realized in 1907, by the French painter Auguste Renoir. In the play, a young woman is portrayed in a bed, exposed breasts, the sex covered with a sheet. But it was the message on the billboard that caught the public's attention: "Bring your kids to see naked people."

Poster campaign of the Musée d'Orsay and Orangerie has the message: "Bring your children to see naked people".

The operation was carried out by the Parisian agency Madame Bovary, coordinated by the communication director of the Musée d'Orsay and Orangerie, Amélie Hardivillier. "The campaign was very well received by the public, appreciated and reproduced. There was no controversy about it, "he says.

According to her, the goal of the campaign was to put themselves in the shoes of children when they go to museums, to decipher their reactions and their understanding of works. In addition, the communication operation plays with a reversal of values: "we wanted to show that it is the children who take their parents to the museums".

The Origin of the World ", 1866, by Gustave Courbet.

For Hardivillier, everyone should go to art exhibitions. The biggest challenge for his team, he says, is precisely how to attract different audiences to the place, including children and adolescents. For this, according to her, it is necessary to relate historical works to current affairs. "Saint Sebastian is a saint. But it can become a gay icon if you look at it in the paintings with the look of today, "he points out.

The director of communication points out that no work of the museum has censorship of age, not even the emblematic "L'Origine du Monde" (The Origin of the World, canvas made by Gustave Courbet in 1866). This does not exclude, for example, the debate surrounding the painting acquired by the museum in 1995, which is protected by a glass and stands in a special room of the museum. "There is the relationship with the nudity that leads to the debate, especially about this work, which is so sensitive. But this is also the function of art: to bother, to question, "he reiterates.

"Queer Museum" and "La Bête"

Hardivillier expresses his surprise about the closing episodes of the "Queer Museum" exhibition at the Santander Cultural in Porto Alegre and the controversy that generated the performance "La Bête", by the carioca artist Wagner Schwartz, at the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo. "I know that São Paulo is the scene of beautiful exhibitions. This situation is very serious. I'm sad about this news, "he laments.

Brazilian artists and curators living in France also express their indignation, like Fabrícia Martins. The Paris-based artist is a longtime friend of Schwartz, and has followed the creation of the performance by the carioca in the French capital. According to her, the carioca is "shaken up, in shock and threatened."

For Fabrícia, the demonstrations against art in Brazil are nothing more than a political maneuver. "Artistic freedom is turning the currency of the next elections. The performance of Wagner Schwartz turned on the internet due to a decontextualized video. People who never went to the museum saw it and shocked it. Politicians are taking advantage of this. The far right is spearheading this kind of witch hunt in the arts class, "he says.

The artist recalls that the work of Carioca has no erotic connotation, but Brazilians are conditioned to eroticism. "Brazilian society is extremely eroticized. Brazil is the fourth country in the world where most marriages are held with minors. And we know that pedophilia in Brazil happens mainly in families. So works like Wagner Schwartz's are potent because they bring out this camouflaged imagery. "

For gallerist and curator Ricardo Fernandes, a specialist in contemporary art based in Paris, episodes of censorship of art reflect a lack of investment in education in Brazil. "It is first necessary to discuss the decline of Brazilian education so that we can begin to talk about access to art and understanding of freedom of expression," he says.

According to him, the nude is not the center of the polemic, but the flawed interpretation of the art that uses the naked, due to the lack of information and capacity to understand it. "We all come to the world naked and this is natural to all of us. But it was the disinformation that generated the controversy, propagated by a radical group. This group interpreted the works in an erroneous way and spread it through Brazil. "

For the gallerist and curator, the issue is solved with basic education. "People need to have access to the school, learn to interpret and question, to know cultural and historical bases. Education has the power to transform a society, "he adds.

According to Fernandes, it is access to quality education that avoids such controversies in France. "This is what enabled the French to develop a vision for much wider art. Going to a gallery or an exhibition is a common cultural program in France, where museums are also places for meeting and meeting friends and families, "he concludes.

A cultura e o amor devem estar juntos.
Vamos compartilhar.

Culture is not what enters the eyes and ears,
but what modifies the way of looking and hearing.

The Origin of the World", 1866, de Gustave Courbet.

“A sociedade brasileira é extremamente erotizada.
