Friday night, in the back of the hall of the Council of Bussigny, someone gave a big sigh of relief. It was Yves Bolognini, who came to attend a crucial vote for the future of the Bolo Museum, of which he is the founder and director.

With one vote, 27 in favor, 26 against and three abstentions, the plenum granted a credit of 322,000 francs for the organization of an architectural competition. This is the first green light for a new project for Bussigny: create a cultural complex with a theater, a restaurant, but also a space to accommodate the Bolo Museum. For the latter, the stakes were high, since he is looking for a new venue to replace his current premises at EPFL and to house his vast collection of old computers.

In the plenum, the debates were as fed up as the vote was tight. The Finance Committee (COFIN) has weighed all its weight against the project, raising fears about its cost deemed excessive. The actual construction of the future complex is to represent 7 million francs for the municipality and 7 million francs for the Bolo Museum. In particular, COFIN stressed that the operation will cost the City some 400,000 francs a year, or 1.5 tax points.

According to the commission, the criticisms of various elected officials right in the gallery have largely focused on the financial aspect of the project, including the ability of the Bolo Museum to ensure its share of investments. The left has been much more supportive, strongly supporting the social and image contribution of a museocultural center. "This is the time to offer Bussigny other sources of attractiveness as its proximity to the highway," defended Patricia Spack Isenrich, of the Socialist Party and independent left.

In view of the result of the vote, a new twist of theater was invited in this evening. An elected official has indeed asked the council to pronounce on the advisability of a spontaneous referendum. The idea was swept away, clearly this time, but it suggests that the plenum has not finished debating this project, for which it will still have several notice to vote. (24 hours)

The exhibition "Extinction - The beginning or the end?" At the Customs of Porto, Portugal.

Inaugurated this Monday, in Porto, coming from the Museum of Natural History of London, and presents more than 60 species in extinction, extinct or saved, among them dinosaur fossils.

Until October 8, the Customs of Porto is home to animals such as the Baiji dolphin, extinct in 2006, but also as the leatherback turtle, designated as a living fossil, inhabiting the planet more than 110 million years ago, surpassing mass extinctions, and there is also space for fragments of a meteorite.

1

"The exhibition aims to address the entire history of life on planet Earth from its origins to speculation of the future. Always around extinction, it turns out to be an engine of life evolution. We must distinguish the mass extinction, caused by undesirable phenomena, by a point extinction that always happens throughout life, "explained Paula Paz Dias, director of the exhibition in Portugal.

At the entrance, a dinosaur skull "greets" visitors, starting the journey through extinct species such as the saber-toothed tiger and the Dodo, then moving on to successful conservation projects such as the oryx- of-Arabia and the black African lever.

There is also an invitation to think about which species should be saved, a question that is much debated in the scientific community, whose practical example offered in this exhibition is the tiger, with a population now around 3,000.

"We can not protect all species, we have to have a global policy of perceiving which species we want to intervene and maintain. This selection is an open question and there has to be a broad international consensus, it is an issue that will continue to be discussed. Should they be those essential to the survival of the human species? We are not immune to this extinction, "he said.

The exhibition also presents examples of the so-called "invasive species", that is, animals such as dogs and cats that, when "they traveled with the explorers", unbalanced the "ecosystems deeply", according to explained Soraia Salvador, who works in the Museum of Natural History two years ago.

"In order to finish the exhibition, we end up talking about Man. [Taking into account] the human impact we are causing on the planet, what will cause us to die out? On average, each species stays on the planet for a million years and then extinguishes. We will eventually have our extinction. The question is: what will be the phenomenon? We want people to reflect. The truth is that the planet knows more than us and we are as vulnerable as any animal, "concluded the Portuguese responsible for the exhibitions in Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.

The space also includes interactive films and audiovisuals, simulation games for children and families, lectures and conferences, in addition to a showcase of animals and which aims to expand the debate about extinction as a natural or provoked phenomenon.

Nós teremos a nossa extinção, eventualmente. A pergunta é: qual será o fenómeno?
