The unpublished exhibition emerged as a showcase of the show "Mixed Stories" by the Tomie Ohtake Institute in 2014, curated by Adriano Pedrosa and Lilia Schwarcz.

Another motivation for the show is the history of Brazil itself, which completed 130 years of the abolition of slavery in May of this year. The country was the last to end slavery and received 46% of Africans enslaved over 300 years.

Thematic nuclei

The more than 400 works of the show are organized from various thematic nuclei, which can be visited in any order, without any recommendation.

At the Tomie Ohtake Institute, the visitor finds the nuclei "Emancipations", which shows how the certainty of the dreamed freedom remained firm even throughout slavery; and "Activism and Resistance," with works on resistance to domination, struggles for civil rights, the fight against racism, and counter-narratives of empowerment and the formation of spaces of black sociability.

Masp has the nucleus "Maps and Margins", on the transit between Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean; "Daily life", about life in different historical contexts before and after slavery; "Rites and Rites", about the various manifestations with influence of the African matrix (samba, carnival, merengue, religions, etc); "Portraits", with representations of blacks and blacks in different historical periods; "Afro-Atlantic Modernisms", with works by modernist African, Brazilian, Cuban and American artists; and "Routes and Transitions: Africa, Jamaica, Bahia", with themes trance, religions, rastafari, equestrianism and psychedelism.

"What Goes Without Saying" (2012), de Hank Willis Thomas

The MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM: teamLab Borderless, an unprecedented digital art museum jointly created by Mori Building Co., Ltd, a leading developer of urban settings, and teamLab, a leading global digital art collection, has opened today announced the two organizers.

Toshiyuki Inoko, Founder of teamLab (Photo: Business Wire)

The digital art museum features approximately 50 interactive works of art, some of which are brand new, in an enormous 10,000 m² area with five areas. Interactive works of art do not have borders that separate them from other works. Some extend beyond the installation rooms and corridors, some overlap with other works and some even merge with other works. As there are no boundaries, immersive works keep the boundaries between people in a state of continuous flow. Visitors enter and physically explore the works, as well as experience interactions with other visitors. The result is an entirely new type of interactive digital art experience that has no similar anywhere in the world.

Finally, Mori Building and teamLab wish their exclusive digital art museum to expand cultural interactions in Tokyo and increase the city's magnetism as the metropolis approaches 2020 and beyond.

MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM: Borderless teamLab (10.000m², 5 zones)

1: World Without Frontiers

People understand and recognize the world through their bodies, moving freely and forming connections and relationships with other people. As a consequence, the body has its own sense of time. In the mind, the boundaries between different thoughts are ambiguous, causing them to influence and sometimes to mingle with one another.

The Borderless teamLab is a group of works of art that form a borderless world. Works of art move out of the rooms freely, form connections and relationships with people, communicate with other works, influence and sometimes blend with one another and have the same concept of time as the human body.

People get lost in the world of works of art. Works without borders change according to the presence of people, and as we immerse ourselves and blend in this unified world, we experience continuity between people as well as a new relationship that transcends the boundaries between people and the world.

2: teamLab Athletics Forest

The teamLab Athletics Forest is a new "creative physical space" that trains the ability of spatial recognition to promote hippocampal growth of the brain. It is based on the concept of understanding the world through the body and thinking the world three-dimensionally. In a complex, physically challenging, three-dimensional space, let your body immerse in an interactive world.

3: Future Park

Learn and Play! Future Park is an educational project and an experimental field of co-creation (collaborative creation).

4: Forest of Lamps

When a person stands near a lamp, it shines and emits a color that reproduces itself. The light of this lamp becomes the starting point and it spreads to the two nearest lamps. The light from the two closest lamps transmits the same color to other lamps, one after another, spreading continuously. The transmitted lamp of the lamp always reproduces as a bright light once, passing to the nearby lamps, until all the lamps have shone once, and then returns to the first lamp. The light of the lamp, in response to human interaction, divides into two, becomes an optical line through all the lamps respectively, finally finding the first lamp, which became the starting point.

5: EN TEA HOUSE

Make some tea and a flower blooms in the teacup. Flowers blossom infinitely while there is tea. The tea in the teapot becomes an infinite world in which the flowers continue to blossom. Drink in the infinitely expanding world.

Shingo Tsuji, President and CEO of Mori Building Co., Ltd.

Tokyo must continuously increase its magnetic power to attract people, goods, capital and information from around the world. According to the latest Global Power City Index, an annual report issued by the Mori Memorial Foundation's Mori Building Research Foundation in Tokyo has a very high ranking in areas such as economics, environment and habitability, but loses in terms of art and cultural interaction.

Mori Building actively incorporates educational opportunities into its urban development initiatives. Mori Building offers 20,000 children art and learning opportunities, for example, the Kids' Workshop, mainly in Roppongi Hills, every year. Children need proactive, highly dimensional, real-world learning, but instead receive passive two-dimensional education in classrooms. We would be happy if children could learn how to grasp things with greater dimensionality, and expand their powers of imagination by exploring our world of digital art.

During the exciting Tokyo race for 2020, we hope everyone will enjoy this first and only museum of its kind, an unprecedented world of digital art created in collaboration by teamLab and MoriBuilding.

Toshiyuki Inoko, founder of teamLab

Digital art has been released from material substance constraints. The feelings and thoughts that have been incorporated into the work of art through a physical medium can now be directly transferred to the people (visitors) through experience.

Unlike physical materials, people move freely with their bodies, form connections with other people, and recognize the world through their bodies. The body has a concept of time, and in the mind, and the boundaries between different thoughts are ambiguous, causing them to influence and sometimes to mingle with one another.

If an artist can put thoughts and feelings directly into people's experiences, works of art can also move freely, form connections and relationships with people, and have the same concept of time as the human body. Works of art can transcend boundaries, influence, and sometimes blend with one another. That way, all boundaries between artists, people and works of art dissolve and the teamLab Borderless world is created.

While people walk freely through TeamLab Borderless, they get lost in the world of works of art. Borderless works of art are transformed by the presence of people, and as we immerse ourselves and blend in this unified world, we explore a new relationship that transcends the boundaries between people and between people and the world.

Toshiyuki Inoko, Founder of teamLab (Photo: Business Wire)

MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM: teamLab Borderless (10.000m², 5 zonas)

3: Future Park

Learn and Play!

4: Forest of Lamps

MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM: Borderless TeamLab (10.000m², 5 Zonen)

Welt ohne Grenzen

MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM: Borderless teamLab (10.000

5: EN TEA HOUSE

Mori Building Co., Ltd.

Toshiyuki Inoko
