In the week in which the State University of Norte Fluminense (Uenf) turns 25, the Space of Science will be reopened. After a month-long renovation, the Space will accommodate another 100 stuffed animals donated by the Taxidermy Museum of Nova Friburgo and will be reopened on Tuesday (14) at 14:30.

The re-inauguration will include a visit to the exhibition and exhibition of films of scientific dissemination produced by the Space of Science.

The donation of the animals took place through the teacher and curator André Bohrer Marques and is now added to the original collection, consisting mainly of stuffed birds and mammals, as well as some reptiles such as lizards and alligators, as well as animals in formaldehyde , such as fish and invertebrates.

"When we receive new stuffed animals, we will have to reshape the exhibition." A part will be presented by a projector, which will reproduce images of the new animals, indicating the scientific and vulgar name and biome in which they live, "said Professor Ronaldo Novelli, Science, which is under the responsibility of the Center for Biosciences and Biotechnology (CBB) Uenf.

The Science Space began its activities in July of 1999, outside the university. Ten years later, in September 2009, he was transferred to the campus of Uenf, installing himself in a tent of 300 m2. The objective is to promote the science and technology of the Northern Fluminense in a didactic and playful way. Since then, the Science Space has been carrying out activities such as lectures and itinerant events, with the reproduction of educational-scientific videos made by its production team.

3

"All activities are focused on the production and dissemination of science and technology, which have developed in an articulated way, focused on regional situations and addressing their biodiversity." In addition to scientific and educational activities, the Science Space brought the school and the University closer, thus promoting real scientific dissemination, justifying the indissociability between research, teaching and extension, "said Novelli.

4

Since its implementation, the Science Space has witnessed the presence of more than 65 thousand visitors - 50 thousand when it worked outside the Uenf and 15 thousand when it started to function on the university campus.

5

Space visits always take place from 9am to 5pm. In the case of schools, it is necessary to schedule in advance, through the project Knowing Uenf, through the email conocendoauenf@uenf.br or directly in the place.

Responsible for keeping the memory of an extremely painful period in the lives of more than 40 thousand Chileans, Santiago Estévez reveals a fear for democracy in Latin America. He is the director of the Museum of Memory and Human Rights in Santiago. The site, opened in 2011, is where the history of victims and relatives of the country's dictatorship (1973-1990) is traced.

Estévez warned: "In Latin America we are experiencing a resurgence of very negationist positions, which seek to revise and justify what happened in the dictatorship." In the wake of this not-so-distant past, Recently, the museum - visited by about 150,000 people in 2017 - has launched an Internet campaign, where it often suffers attacks via social networks.

It was an invitation to reflection, with the hashtag: #quepasuelto (which happens if I forget). "We have many people who attack us, but the satisfaction that others defend the opportunity to have a place that reminds us what should never happen in a country: the violence of the State with the destruction of democracy."

For him, it is necessary to remember the dictatorial period so as not to forget and incur the same mistakes, thus preserving democracy. And democracy, in his opinion, is "a social, political and cultural construction." Therefore, it is something that risks: "Democracy is a common, collective and citizen responsibility. And when this is abandoned, democracy is in a state of fragility, "he said. "Effectively requires a permanent commitment of education and involvement of social actors, young people and politics."

One of the missions to which the museum turns, stresses Estevez, is the awareness of the younger. He cites a study in which 57 percent of eighth-grade Chilean youth in basic education say they would accept living in a dictatorship provided that it guaranteed them order and security. "It is important to educate in a new culture of respect, good treatment, human rights ethics, remembering what happened, but helping people to reflect on what is happening now with these themes, with our indigenous people, with the themes of gender, migration, among others, "he said.

The concept of the memory reported in the museum is questioned by Chilean society, both denying that there has been a dictatorship and those that take a historical context: "In this case, they do not deny the atrocities of the dictatorship and still less the need for a place of memory, but they equate the revolutionary rhetoric of the Allende government (deposed president) with the actual violence of the coup, "he explained. "In this casualistic logic, the repressive response of the dictatorship could be explained by the fear of 'communism' and the threat of a revolutionary process like Fidel Castro's Cuba."

Although controversial, the museum has good acceptance, according to the director. "Nowadays, the historical interpretation favors most those who suffered the atrocities of the dictatorship," he concludes. The number of visits has grown in recent years - from 2016 to 2017 there was an increase of 18% in visits.

Of the total, about 40% are from foreigners, with a growing audience that drew attention: "There has been a significant increase of Venezuelans over the last three years."

Divulgação/ CP

这是一个反思的邀请,标签是:#quepasuelto(如果我忘了就会发生)。
