Cultura e tecnologia. -- Culture and technology. With open banking, fintechs must trigger and force adaptation of large banks. During the Brazil Investment Forum, representatives of Bradesco, Itaú and Banco do Brasil shared their views on the arrival of this new system.

Culture and technology. With open banking, fintechs must trigger and force adaptation of large banks. During the Brazil Investment Forum, representatives of Bradesco, Itaú and Banco do Brasil shared their views on the arrival of this new system.

São Paulo - Brazil. The concept of open banking is gradually coming to the Brazilian dictionary. The system allows other companies and services to access customer data - with explicit authorization. One of the principles is that bank data belongs to customers and not to institutions.

In practice, for the ultimate consumer, regulated and functioning open banking in Brazil would allow people to move their accounts from different platforms and not just the bank's application or website.

Sharing this information with more people, from the standpoint of traditional banks, represents a breakdown.

There is some resistance in the industry because older companies have unique information that they do not have to share with competitors today - such as finteehs.

This new model would force them to release such data if that is what the customer wants.

Although there is still no formal definition of open banking nationwide, the issue is already on the agenda of the country's largest banks - and their representatives recognize that the arrival of the new concept borders the inevitable.

During the Brazil Investment Forum, which took place in Sào Paulo on the 3rd, representatives of Bradesco. Itaú and Banco do Brasil participated in a panel in which they shared their views on the arrival of this new system in the financial world - and the tone was optimistic.

Thiago Charnet, IT Director at Itaú, understands that fintechs are ahead in data handling. He argues that it is crucial that banks improve the experience that customers have in their domains and with their services, if not the possibility of a fall in the customer base is high.

"The companies that customers today believe and consider great are focused on good service. So our challenge is also to become customer-centric institutions from the data," adds Charnet.

For Mauricio Minas, Bradesco's vice president, as financial services engage in virtually every day-to-day activity that exists today, banks need to use it for themselves. "We need to add value. If we are going to open our APIs, we can have some advantages over that," he says.

According to him, this includes taking advantage of this opening of data and information to integrate into new service chains and offer new products, generating new sources of revenue from information that previously did not have either.

"The flow of data about what people do with the financial life that will pass us will increase and we will have access to new data that we do not have today," explained the executive.

In addition, by facilitating the creation of new applications that are time-consuming and practical for the customer, the bank has the possibility to focus on the experience and expand its business possibilities with an improvement of its traditional "bureaucratic image".

Minas understands that the biggest challenge for banks is to have competitors like fintechs "because they are experts in data processing". On the other hand, with access to more information, banks will have the chance to offer products to the customer with more assertiveness. "We have to be predictive: give the customer what he wants, before he knows what he wants," he says.

Responsibility

Another important point that will still be defined by a regulation is what banks and other financial institutions with access to customer data will be allowed to do with this information.

"We have access to certain and data and we will have a lot more. But [the use] will be regulated, I think it will be more organized later. customer profile photo of the customer, "explains Thiago Charnet, Itaú IT Director.

Occupation highlighted: data scientist

With the new system, a profession that will become even more prominent is that of a data scientist. Professionals who know how to collect and analyze data will be increasingly required.

Gustavo Fosse, IT Director at Banco do Brasil believes that a challenge for banks is also related to hiring professionals from this specialization.

And we [of Banco do Brasil] have a greater challenge still in relation to the qualification of professionals. Because we are state-owned, employees enter through a contest. So we have partnerships with universities and we are willing to sponsor the studies so that the teams are able to deal with data, "he said during the event.

The executives of Bradesco and Itaú also shared this need to train their employees so that this analysis work with much more information is very efficient with the arrival of open banking.

"I assume that in the near future 100% of employees will have to know how to deal with data," Fosse said.
