The application dossier was delivered to the director of the Cultural Department of Itamaraty, Minister Paula Alves de Souza. The expectation is that in 2019 the Committee on Intangible Heritage decides on the insertion of the Brazilian good in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

With a positive decision, Bumba-meu-boi will join the Art Kusiwa - Body Painting and Graphic Art Wajãpi (2003), the Samba de Roda in the Recôncavo Baiano (2005), Frevo: artistic expression of the Carnival of Recife (2012 ), the Círio de Nossa Senhora de Nazaré (2013) and the Capoeira Wheel (2014). Path to international title

Considered as a Cultural Heritage of Brazil since 2011 by the Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage (Iphan), the path of the bumba-meu-boi traveled to reach the candidacy of Intangible Heritage of Humanity went through several stages until reaching the current stage.

According to Iphan, everything starts when there is a request from the community to the institute for the good to be inscribed on Unesco's representative list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This is the first step for the Brazilian Cultural Heritage to gain international recognition.

Thereafter, the request is submitted by Iphan for evaluation to the Advisory Council on Cultural Heritage and, with the consent, begins to draw up a survey on the relevant aspects of the cultural property, legitimating its importance for humanity.

When it is gathered in a Dossier, the data are delivered by the MRE to Unesco, as happened on Tuesday (5). From now on, Bumba-meu-boi will be part of a set of intangible assets that will be the object of analysis by the international body on the acceptance or rejection of the proposal submitted for final consideration during a meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for Safeguard.

Bumba-meu-boi

The Cultural Complex of Bumba meu boi is present throughout the State of Maranhão, divided into five main styles known as accents: Matraca, Orchestra, Zabumba, Baixada and Costa-de-mano. It counts more than 400 groups, located in the urban and rural areas of São Luís and in at least 75 municipalities of the state.

According to the director of the Department of Intangible Heritage of Iphan, Hermano Queiroz, participating in the demonstration extrapolates the idea of being part of a group. In addition to the unity most closely linked to the Ox celebrations, practitioners identify themselves as a large community boieira, communing the same worldview that involves Catholic religiosity, African worships of diverse traditions, beliefs and rites.

"For the participants, integrating Bumba my ox is a reason for pride and devotion, so that some translate their commitment to the Ox comparing it to a religion."

Singularity

For IPHAN, although there are similar forms of expression to Bumba-meu-boi in other Brazilian states, in Maranhão the element differs in that it constitutes a cultural complex, comprising a variety of styles, multiplicity of groups and, mainly, because establishes an intrinsic relationship between faith, feast and art, based on devotion to the Catholic saints of June, on the beliefs of deities of African worships and on the cosmogony and legends of the region.

The application dossier emphasizes that cultural manifestation, which carries a symbolic charge that reproduces the life cycle (birth, life and death), is a metaphor for human existence itself.

A cultura e o amor devem estar juntos.
Vamos compartilhar.

Culture is not what enters the eyes and ears,
but what modifies the way of looking and hearing

Saint-Barthélemy, or Saint-Barth, is a lost island in the turquoise Caribbean, the meeting point of the international jet set, a true paradise of millionaires where, for example, model Kate Moss has done topless, singer Beyoncé promoted parties to break in and Cristiano Ronaldo has already celebrated a new year. The list of the rich and famous who own properties or spend holidays here is enormous, but Saint-Barth is more than that: it is a mixture of Caribbean beauty and European sophistication. It has beaches very crowded and others completely isolated. The mansions and luxury hotels are scattered everywhere, but it also has a city with Swedish traces, restaurants of French cuisine and others very simple and accessible.

Located about two hours by plane from Miami, 250 kilometers east of Puerto Rico or 45 minutes by boat from the island of Saint Barthélemy, it is part of the French Antilles, having been a French overseas collectivity status since 2007.

It should be noted that Saint-Barth was a former Swedish colony for over 100 years but returned to the dominion of France.

The remains of the Swedish presence are marked in architecture, but the language, culture and cuisine are French. They are only 21 square kilometers of paradise on Earth, where the most famous and favorite beaches by the jet set are located. The development of the island is relatively recent, still with few hotels, few inhabitants and without public transports.

Saint-Barths is ideal for those who want to experience a bit of the atmosphere found in the small towns of the French coast. Walking, boating and diving are indispensable programs.

Its small capital, Gustavia (named after King Gustav III of Sweden), has an interesting harbor, always filled with boats and yachts, as well as shops and restaurants, and the municipal museum where you can see fascinating photographs of the history of island.

The aristocratic landscapes, the mountains covered by lush vegetation and the waves that beat softly against the black rocks of the coral reefs deserve special attention.

Everything in Saint-Barth is exquisite, heritage of French colonization. The island was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493 and named after Bartolomeu, the explorer's brother. In 1648 began the process of population by the French of the neighboring island, Saint Kitts. Thus, there are French traits everywhere.

If you've always dreamed of cinematographic settings for your two-night break or honeymoon, be aware that there is nothing more appropriate than Saint-Barth.

About 8,000 people live on the island of Saint-Barth. Three thousand are Portuguese, from the north of Portugal, especially Braga, Guimarães, Barcelos and Monção.

Without a Portuguese consulate in S. Bartolomeu (the emigrants depend on the Portuguese embassy in Paris), little by little the community is organized. The Portuguese soccer team was first in the local standings.

The Portuguese Sport and Cultural Association of Saint-Barth was responsible for encouraging and encouraging Portuguese emigrants to participate in the activities of the island. The commemorations of April 25, S. João and S. Martinho are the only traditional Portuguese feasts celebrated there.

Wall House -
