Музей Сергея Есенина в Ташкенте был открыт в 1981 году. Это было знаменательное событие, о котором писали все центральные и республиканские газеты, говорили в информационных передачах по центральному и местному радио и телевидению. В этом потоке информации упоминались и имена создателей литературного музея в Ташкенте, в том числе и имя художника-любителя, журналиста по профессии Вадима Викторовича Николюка. Его заслуга в создании музея заслуженно оценена общественностью.
Небольшое, но привлекательное здание Музея Сергея Есенина в Ташкенте со всех сторон окружено пятиэтажными жилыми и административными зданиями. О нем не напоминают специальные указатели со стороны шумных городских улиц, но дорогу к нему многие быстро находят. В течение двадцати пяти лет стремятся посетить музей многочисленные любители русской поэзии, страстные почитатели великого русского поэта.
Создание Музея Сергея Есенина не было случайным явлением в культурной жизни столицы Узбекистана. В 60-е годы прошлого века, когда русской литературе и поэзии было возвращено имя и творчество Сергея Александровича Есенина, из спецхранов государственных архивов и библиотек были извлечены достоверные сведения о поездке Сергея Есенина в 1921 году в Туркестан, публикации о которой по известным причинам замалчивались.
В залах музея можно увидеть подлинные автографы С. Есенина, редчайшие прижизненные издания его произведений, начиная с «Радуницы» 1916 года, в том числе и книги с пометками поэта или близких ему (сестер А. А. и Е. А. Есениных, Г. Бениславской, Н. Вольпиной), уникальные фотографии, грампластинки с записью голоса поэта, собранные внуком журналиста В. Г. Михайлова, в доме которого в Ташкенте бывал поэт. Интерес вызывают редкие издания местных поэтов двадцатых годов, подаренные музею инженером-энергетиком В. Юферевым. Из бытовых экспонатов, подаренных ташкентцами, воссоздан уголок гостиной, типичной для старого русского дома в Ташкенте. На основе материалов фонда долгие годы жившего в Ташкенте поэта Александра Ширяевца создана экспозиция «Есенин и мы». Представленные произведения С. Есенина на узбекском языке в переводе Народного поэта Эркина Вахидова и других мастеров слова, а также книги на других языках, наглядно свидетельствуют о большой любви и постоянно растущем интересе к творческой биографии русского поэта.
Кроме регулярных экскурсий по залам музея и бесед о творчестве С. Есенина стали регулярно проводиться есенинские чтения, литературные и музыкальные вечера, концерты и просмотры есенинского слайд-фильма «С. Есенин и Восток», созданного директором музея В. Николюком, конкурсы чтецов и выставки работ художников, встречи с интересными людьми. Музей посещали не только горожане. Актив музея установил долговременные связи с есенинолюбами страны. О многом интересном рассказали посетившие музей гости. Краевед из Рязани Н. В. Обыденкин познакомил с ходом своей работы над историей общественных и государственных есенинских музеев, москвичи Н. Г. Юсов, Ю. Б. Юшкин, А. Т. Антановская подарили свои книги и привлекли ташкентцев к сотрудничеству с российским есенинским обществом «Радуница», есенинолюбы Санкт-Петербурга Л. Ф. Карохин, В. Я. Бесперстов, В. И. Якушев, Н. В. Нестеров помогли пополнить фонд музея материалами о пребывании С. Есенина в Петрограде, опытом работы школьного есенинского музея в Мурманске поделилась учительница В. Е. Кузнецова, стихи о поэте читали поэты из Алма-Аты Я. Глазков и Г. Атантаев, об интересе к поэзии Есенина в Монголии поведал Э. И. Монокрович. Из Лондона прислал в дар музею свою монографию о Есенине с дарственной надписью английский есениновед Гордон Маквей, библиотечку своих книг подарил руководитель есенинской исследовательской группы Института мировой литературы Ю. П. Прокушев. Всех трудно перечислить.
С 1992 года Общественный совет музея начал издавать специальный информационный выпуск «Мир Есенина». К настоящему времени издано 9 выпусков газетного формата и 7 выпусков брошюрного типа, в которых есенинолюбы Узбекистана и других республик напечатали интересные материалы из творческой биографии поэта, делились своими впечатлениями о поэзии Есенина, публиковали стихи есенинской тематики, рассказывали о новостях есенинолюбского движения. Особенно активизировалась работа музея в связи с празднованием 100-летия со дня рождения С. А. Есенина. Не только в Ташкенте, но и во всех городах республики была отдана дань любви великому русскому поэту. Об этом можно судить по многочисленным публикациям материалов о поэте в республиканских, областных и городских газетах.
В 2007 году «Есенинские чтения» были посвящены 120-летию со дня рождения поэта А. В. Ширяевца, близкого друга С. Есенина. К юбилейной дате в дополнение к постоянным экспозициям о А. Ширяевце была организована дополнительная выставка, на которой посетители могли познакомиться с подлинными документами и редкими фотографиями поэта, рукописями его стихотворений и сборниками прижизненных изданий, в свое время безвозмездно переданных музею М. П. Костеловой (Новиковой), хорошо знавшей в 20-е годы А. Ширяевца.
Музей Сергея Есенина проводит научно-исследовательскую работу по тематике «С. А. Есенин и литературный процесс в Узбекистане». Совместно с Русским культурным центром, Национальным университетом Узбекистана при поддержке Росзарубежцентра в Узбекистане прошла научно-практическая конференция «С. А. Есенин и современность», приуроченная к 110-ой годовщине со дня рождения поэта. В представленных 26 докладах и сообщениях большое внимание было уделено краеведческому аспекту. Таковы доклады С. И. Зинина «Узбекистанская есениниана», Б. А. Голендера «Есенинские места в Ташкенте», Морица Ю. А. «П. И. Тартаковский — ташкентский исследователь творческой биографии С. Есенина», Таштемировой З. С. и Давлетовой Г. Н. «Сергей Есенин в жизни ферганского ученого Коржана В. В.» и др. Об интересе к творческой биографии русского поэта в республике свидетельствует опубликованный в «Материалах конференции» библиографический указатель (1960-2005) «Есениниана Узбекистана», в который вошло около 450 названий опубликованных в республике книг, брошюр, журнальных и газетных статей на русском и узбекском языках.
