Behind the old Herning Museum is Museum Park, where the Open Air Museum is housed. Open Air Museum tells the story of the western and central Jutland heath culture and shows how people in the area worked and lived in the 1800s. The museum consists of a farm environment with stable, barn and farmhouse with a tie room and a courtyard with diving well. In addition, you can also experience the old malt kiln, smithy with open fire, a spændhus, a baking oven, and the smallholding called Anne-Marie's house.
Every Thursday morning awakened Frilandsmusset to life by museum volunteers, the so-called Land Bylaug.Here you can include meeting craftsmen who, based on ancient techniques and contemporary tools maintain the houses in the park.Members of the Land Bylauget show you also want to navigate the many historic buildings. Pr. 1 June 2014 closed the old Herning Museum, and the museum's collections are packed and will in future be integrated into the new museum at the Textile Forum. In the old Herning Museum, you have still the opportunity to experience exhibitions about Evald Tang Kristensen, occupation as well as the very popular Jens Nielsen's farm.The exhibitions can be visited Thursdays. 9:00 to 12:00, and by appointment. Admission is free.
