Guimarães: House of Memory wins European Prize for Sustainable Cultural Tourism. - Guimarães: Casa da Memória vence Prémio Europeu de Turismo Cultural Sustentável.

The Casa da Memória de Guimarães project has just been awarded the second European Cultural Tourism Award by the European Cultural Tourism Network (ECTN).

The award took place in a session held in the Romanian city of Sibiu, where the 10th International Conference on Cultural Tourism in Europe took place. The Casa da Memória, which was visited in September 2016 by the ECTN Annual Congress, which took place in the territory of the Ave Intermunicipal Community (CIM Ave), received the a prize for the way in which it has recovered industrial heritage and is linked to the population and visitors, creating a cultural center that guarantees the interpretation of the history, material and immaterial heritage of Guimarães, with excellence at European level.

The House of Memory competed in the final with a further 11 competitors, after a first European selection, losing only to the Romanian project of Ecovias Culturalis having been ahead of the project Solin of Croatia and the project of recovery of the lagoons of Venice presented by the region of the Veneto.

The House of Memory reached the second place in a final that had 11 competitors, behind a Romanian initiative of Cultural Ecovias, but surpassing the project Solin, of Croatia, and another one that aims to recover the lagoons of Venice, submitted by the region of Veneto, Italy.


According to the website of the organization that awarded the prizes, this year's motto covered "Cultural Values, Diversity and Inheritance", with eight sub-themes, all of them aimed at giving greater visibility to European cultural tourism destinations, promoting the creation of a "network of contacts" between regions.

O projecto Casa da Memória de Guimarães acaba de ser premiado com o segundo prémio Europeu de Turismo Cultural Sustentável (Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism) atribuído pela ECTN - European Cultural Tourism Network. 

A atribuição decorreu numa sessão realizada na cidade romena de Sibiu, onde teve lugar a 10.ª Conferência Internacional de Turismo Cultural na Europa. A Casa da Memória, que em Setembro de 2016 foi visitada pelo Congresso Anual da ECTN, o qual decorreu no território da Comunidade Intermunicipal do Ave (CIM Ave), recebeu o prémio pelo modo como recuperou património industrial e se liga à população e aos visitantes, criando um centro cultural que garante a interpretação da história, do património material e imaterial de Guimarães, com excelência a nível europeu.

A Casa da Memória concorreu na final com mais 11 competidores, após uma primeira selecção a nível europeu, perdendo apenas para o projecto Romeno de Ecovias Culturais tendo ficado à frente do projecto Solin da Croácia e do projecto de recuperação das lagoas de Veneza apresentado pela região do Veneto.

A Casa da Memória alcançou o segundo lugar numa final que contou com 11 concorrentes, ficando atrás de uma iniciativa romena de Ecovias Culturais, mas ultrapassando o projeto Solin, da Croácia, e um outro que visa recuperar as lagoas de Veneza, submetido pela região de Veneto, em Itália.


Segundo o 'site' da organização que atribuiu os prémios, o mote deste ano abrangeu "Valores Culturais, Diversidade e Herança", dispondo de oito subtemas, todos eles destinados a dar "maior visibilidade a destinos de turismo cultural europeu, promovendo a criação de uma "rede de contactos" entre regiões.
