The 168th edition of the Feast of the Divine Holy Spirit of São José, recognized as Intangible Heritage of the Municipality, takes place this weekend in the Historic Center. To celebrate the Azorean faith and culture with the community, the program begins on Saturday (12) and continues until Monday (14), bringing together the traditional meeting of the Divine flags, the cortege of the Imperial Family, the coronation of the Emperor, and cultural, artistic and gastronomic activities.
This year, the Feast of the Divine of St. Joseph is organized by an imperial group, formed by seven party couples. As tradition says, one of the highlights of the festivity is the offering of the Divine Soup by partying couples to the community around the square Hercílio Luz, in a gesture that represents the love of neighbor and the spirit of sharing among all. The official opening of the party takes place on Saturday (12), at 6:00 p.m., and then at 6:30 p.m., the procession with the Imperial Family will make its exit. Already the celebration of Holy Solemn Mass, will take place at 7 pm, in the Mother Church of the Historical Center.
On Sunday (13), the schedule begins at 9am with the cortege of the Imperial Family followed by the Holy Mass at 9:30 AM. An afternoon of prizes is also scheduled to start from 2pm. At 6:30 pm the procession of the Imperial Family precedes the Solemn Mass which will be celebrated from 7pm.
On Monday (14), at 19:30, the procession of the Imperial Family opens the night schedule. From 8:00 p.m., the Mother Church will begin the Holy Mass of Thanksgiving, which will be presided over by Archbishop Wilson Tadeu Jönck, Archbishop of Florianópolis. On the occasion, will also happen to the presentation of the partygoers of 2019. To end the schedule happens from 10pm, a lottery and awards delivery.

The Feast of the Divine Holy Spirit was instituted in 1296, in the City of Alenquer, in Portugal, by Queen Isabel of Aragon, the Holy Queen, wife of Dom Dinis, King of Portugal. The feast is the fruit of a promise that peace could reign between Portugal and the Independent Kingdom of Aragon that were at war.
The promises of the queen and the people were answered and peace reigned again. Since then, in a gesture of adoration and thanksgiving to the Holy Spirit, an Emperor is chosen from among the simple people of the town and a procession is organized, with the imperial couple a special highlight. He is crowned and receives the royal scepter. During the celebration, the Emperor becomes king, exercising a community service and charity.

Como manda a tradição, um dos pontos altos da festividade é o oferecimento da Divina Sopa pelos casais festeiros à comunidade no entorno da praça Hercílio Luz, em um gesto que representa o amor ao próximo e o espírito da partilha entre todos. A abertura oficial da festa acontece no sábado (12), às 18h, e, em seguida, às 18h30min, o cortejo com a Família Imperial fará sua saída. Já a celebração da Santa Missa Solene, ocorrerá às 19h, na Igreja Matriz do Centro Histórico.
No domingo (13), a programação começa às 9h com o cortejo da Família Imperial seguido da Santa Missa Solene às 9h30min. Uma tarde de prêmios também está programada para começar a partir das 14h. Às 18h30min o cortejo da Família Imperial antecede a Santa Missa Solene que será celebrada a partir das 19h.
Na segunda-feira (14), às 19h30min, o cortejo da Família Imperial abre a programação da noite. A partir das 20h, terá início na Igreja Matriz, a Santa Missa de Ação de Graças, que será presidida pelo arcebispo de Florianópolis, Dom Wilson Tadeu Jönck. Na ocasião, também acontecerá à apresentação dos festeiros de 2019. Para encerrar a programação acontece a partir das 22h, um sorteio e entrega de prêmios.

A Festa do Divino Espírito Santo foi instituída em 1296, na Cidade de Alenquer, em Portugal, pela rainha Isabel de Aragão, a rainha santa, esposa de Dom Dinis, Rei de Portugal. A festa é fruto de uma promessa para que a paz pudesse reinar entre Portugal e o Reino Independente de Aragão que estavam em guerra.
As promessas da rainha e do povo foram atendidas e a paz voltou a reinar. Desde então, num gesto de adoração e de ação de graças ao Espírito Santo, elege-se um Imperador entre as pessoas simples do povo e organiza-se um cortejo, tendo o casal imperial um destaque especial. Ele é coroado e recebe o cetro real. Durante a festa, o Imperador passa a reinar, exercendo um serviço comunitário e de caridade.
