O que os jardins do Instituto Moreira Sales, a orla da Avenida Atlântica e o aterro do Flamengo têm em comum? O famoso paisagista brasileiro Roberto Burle Marx. Ele é a estrela da recém-inaugurada exposição em Nova York, no Jewish Museum, na Quinta Avenida. Esta é a primeira retrospectiva do artista na cidade desde 1991. “Roberto Burle Marx: Um modernista Brasileiro” fica em exposição até o dia 18 de setembro.
A mostra conta com cem objetos para cobrir a trajetória do artista, que morreu em 1994. Como não seria possível expor seus jardins vivos, a curadoria optou por expor objetos como maquetes, desenhos, tapeçaria e joias.

Entre seus grandes feitos, está o parque do Aterro do Flamengo, inaugurado em 1965. Segundo uma das curadoras, Claudia Nahson, ele “criou espaços verdes em que é possível ignorar o automóvel”, considerando que a área tem um tráfego intenso. Além disso, na década de 1960, ele já denunciava a devastação da Amazônia, inclusive em palestras no exterior.
Burle Marx era filho do judeu-alemão Wilhelm Marx e da católica brasileira Cecília Burle. A última exposição sobre o trabalho do artista em Nova York foi em 1991, no Museu de Arte Moderna. Só que aparentemente ela não chamou muito a atenção do público, talvez porque para muitas pessoas ainda seja difícil considerar jardins uma arte. Espera-se que esta exposição conquiste o público e dê o devido valor a este artista brasileiro.

Burle Marx was the son of German-Jewish Wilhelm Marx and Brazilian Catholic Cecilia Burle. The last exhibition of the artist's work in New York was in 1991, at the Modern Art Museum. But apparently she did not really caught the public's attention, perhaps because for many people it is still difficult to consider an art gardens. It is hoped that this exhibition win public and give due weight to this Brazilian artist.
