Este "artefato icônico", de acordo com o conservador Malcolm Collum, foi inteiramente restaurado, e ainda mantém os suportes para câmera, concebidos para as gravações, além de um lado menos decorado, porque não aparecia nas imagens.
A exibição da nave coincide tanto com o aniversário de 40 anos do Instituto Smithsonian quanto com a comemoração de 50 anos da série Star Trek. Collum completa: "Estamos realmente tratando a Enterprise pelo que ela é, e precisa ser preservada e tratada do modo mais autêntico possível".
