Eternizada em canção de Dorival Caymmi, a estrela mais linda resolveu descansar aos 92 anos – 64 deles à frente do Ilê Iya Omin Axé Iyamassê, o terreiro mais célebre da Bahia. Sua luz, no entanto, continua presente entre seus filhos de santo e todos aqueles que a conheceram.
“Ela soube ser mãe, ser mulher, ser guia espiritual. Cumpriu seu papel na Terra muito bem. Então essa lembrança nunca se acaba com o desaparecimento físico”, afirma Mãe Carmem de Oxaguian, sua filha e atual Ialorixá do terreiro. Neste sábado (13), às 10h, uma missa será celebrada em sua homenagem na Igreja da Vitória.
Maria Escolástica da Conceição Nazaré nasceu no Centro Histórico de Salvador. Quando criança, gostava de jogar búzios e dar nome de divindades africanas para os seus bonecos. Aos oito anos, foi iniciada no candomblé por Mãe Pulchéria, sua tia-avó e responsável pelo apelido de “menininha”. Foi a terceira ialorixá a assumir o terreiro do Gantois, fundado no século 19 e hoje localizado no bairro da Federação.
As águas doces guiaram bem os passos da Oxum mais bonita. Desde criança, foi preparada pelas mulheres da família para assumir o posto de mãe de santo. Aos 28 anos, colocou seu pano da costa amarelo - a cor de Oxum - nos ombros, marcando-a como ialorixá do terreiro. Logo depois, casou com o advogado descendente de ingleses Álvaro McDowell de Oliveira, com quem teve duas filhas, Cleusa e Carmem.
Os 64 anos que ficou à frente do terreiro do Gantois foram marcados por lutas contra o preconceito, chegando até a receber ameaça de prisão. A democratização do candomblé e a aproximação com intelectuais e artistas também foram fatores que contribuíram para Mãe Menininha se tornar símbolo da cultura baiana.
Sortudo é aquele que teve a chance de pedir a benção à mão da doçura. O cantor Jota Veloso é um desses felizardos. “Ela trazia uma nobreza no olhar, que conquistava qualquer pessoa. Era uma figura inspiradora, que conduziu uma religião cheia de preconceitos com uma fé inigualável”, lembra. “Ela era toda carinho e atenção, pra qualquer pessoa que a procurava para um consolo, uma orientação”, reforça Mãe Carmem.
O historiador Jaime Sodré conta que ela era uma mãe de todas as maneiras que poderia ser. “Atendia a todos, não importava de onde viessem. Com ela não tinha cara amarrada. Quando chegávamos com algum problema, minha Mãe Menininha dava aquela risada gostosa e dizia ‘tenha a calma’. Para ela, tudo podia se resolver com a fé”, lembra ele.
Muitos não tiveram o privilégio de ouvir essa risada. A estes, resta sentir a presença dessa filha de Oxum, a quem Olorum mandou tomar conta da gente e de tudo cuidar. Afinal, ela está no Gantois e em todos os lugares. Ora iê iê ô!
