Candidatura avança dentro de um mês, depois de o Governo ter inscrito a "Festa de Carnaval dos Caretos de Podence" no Inventário Nacional do Património Cultural Imaterial.
Os ancestrais Caretos de Podence, emblemáticos mascarados do Carnaval Transmontano, receberam esta quarta-feira a notícia que faltava para a candidatura a Património da Humanidade, que deverá ser formalizada dentro de um mês.
O Governo português inscreveu a "Festa de Carnaval dos Caretos de Podence" no Inventário Nacional do Património Cultural Imaterial, uma decisão publicada hoje em Diário da República e aguardada "há algum tempo" na região, por ser determinante para pedir o reconhecimento internacional.
"É um dia muito importante, uma notícia que já esperávamos há algum tempo", disse à agência Lusa António Carneiro, presidente da Associação de Caretos de Podence e um dos responsáveis por revitalizar esta tradição genuína e ancestral que esteve praticamente extinta e que, nos últimos 20 anos, tem levado a região além-fronteiras.
O despacho da directora-Geral do Património Cultural, Paula Araújo da Silva, aponta que, para a decisão de inventariação deste ritual, pesou "a importância de que se reveste esta manifestação do património cultural imaterial enquanto reflexo da identidade da comunidade em que esta tradição se originou e se pratica".
A tutela realça também a "profundidade histórica e evidente relação com práticas festivas homólogas, características do Nordeste Trasmontano" e "a importância técnica e científica de que se reveste o pedido de inventariação em apreço, que actualiza investigação em profundidade, desenvolvida ao longo de diversos anos com recurso aos métodos e técnicas na área da antropologia".
A inscrição no inventário é também uma forma de salvaguardar esta tradição, na medida em que passa a estar sob a observação da tutela.
"O Careto de Podence é o único que chocalha"
Os endiabrados Caretos de Podence com coloridos e farfalhudos fatos, máscaras de ferro ou lata, chocalhos à cintura e um pau para amparar as tropelias, são conhecidos pelas manifestações ruidosas e querem agora fazer-se ouvir junto da UNESCO, a organização das Nações Unidas para a Educação, Ciência e Cultura.
António Carneiro garante que já está todo o trabalho feito para "submeter, até 21 de Março", a candidatura a Património Imaterial da Humanidade. A ambição é, "em 2018, fazer a festa da elevação".
O caminho está feito e "só falta a tradução para inglês" do dossiê que vai ser remetido para análise da UNESCO.
Em toda a região de Trás-os-Montes há Caretos, todavia os de Podence distingue-se dos restantes pelo chocalho.
"O Careto de Podence é o único que chocalha", aponta. Chocalha as raparigas num ritual associado à fertilidade e a anunciar a mudança da estação do inverno para a primavera.
Daí o nome da festa ser "Entrudo Chocalheiro", aquela que encerra as festas de inverno no Nordeste Transmontano e que é apontada como "o mais genuíno carnaval português", sem samba, ao ritmo da tradição e durante quatro dias.
Doze mil esperados em Podence
A decisão do Governo português chega a poucos dias da festa que preenche o fim-de-semana prolongado de Carnaval, entre 25 e 28 de Fevereiro, com cerca de meia centena de Caretos à solta pelas ruas de Podence.
A aldeia com 180 habitantes é invadida por "10 a 12 mil" curiosos que chegam de vários pontos de Portugal, Espanha, Itália, França, segundo António Carneiro.
O presidente da associação dos Caretos indicou que de Paris está programado partir um avião com 50 pessoas, emigrantes da aldeia que fazem questão de participar no ritual e que já trocaram as férias de natal pelo Carnaval.
Há cada vez mais interessados em mascararem-se de Caretos e esta é uma experiência possível a qualquer pessoa durante o Entrudo Chocalheiro, que proporcionará também actividades paralelas como passeios pedestres, a ronda das tabernas, exposições e lançamento de dois livros sobre esta tradição.
Os mais emblemáticos mascarados das tradições transmontanas têm representado Portugal em eventos internacionais com presença em 10 países.
Uma das mais recentes viagens ao estrangeiro foi a Macau, onde participaram, em 2015, nas comemorações da transferência da administração portuguesa para a China.
O plano numismático da Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda (INCM), apresentado no início do ano, tem prevista uma emissão da "Etnografia Portuguesa" dedicada aos Caretos de Podence.

Carthesians of Podence want to be a World Heritage Site.

The demented Podede Caretos, with colorful and fluffy facts, iron or tin masks, waist rattles and a stick to support the outrages, are known for the noisy demonstrations and now want to be heard by UNESCO, the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture.
António Carneiro guarantees that all the work done to "submit, until March 21", the candidature for Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The ambition is, "in 2018, to make the feast of elevation."
The path is done and "only the English translation" is missing from the dossier that will be submitted for UNESCO's analysis.
In all the region of Trás-os-Montes there are Caretos, but those of Podence are distinguished from the rest by the rattle.

The decision of the Portuguese Government comes a few days after the party that fills the long weekend of Carnival, between February 25 and 28, with about half a hundred Caretos loose in the streets of Podence.
The village with 180 inhabitants is invaded by "10 to 12 thousand" curious who arrive from various points of Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, according to António Carneiro.
The president of the association Caretos indicated that from Paris is scheduled to depart an airplane with 50 people, emigrants from the village who make a point of participating in the ritual and who have already exchanged Christmas holidays for Carnival.
There are more and more interested in masking Caretos and this is a possible experience for anyone during the Chocalheiro, which will also provide parallel activities such as walking tours, the tavern rounds, exhibitions and the launch of two books on this tradition.
The most emblematic masked ones of the traditions transmontanas have represented Portugal in international events with presence in 10 countries.
One of the most recent trips abroad was to Macau, where they participated in 2015 in commemorations of the transfer of the Portuguese administration to China.
The numismatic plan of the National Press-House of the Currency (INCM), presented at the beginning of the year, is expected to issue the "Portuguese Ethnography" dedicated to the Podetos Caretos.
