Bixiga 70 est un big band composé de dix musiciens originaires de São Paulo, la plus grande ville du Brésil. Dans la lignée d’Orquestra Imperial, le groupe apporte un nouveau souffle à la musique brésilienne en mélangeant rythmes traditionnels et influences contemporaines.
Les compositions de Bixiga 70 sont délicieusement schizophrènes. En effet, le big band fait feu de tout bois en s’inspirant des grands classiques de l’Amérique Latine et de l’Afrique de l’Ouest et en ajoutant au tout des influences occidentales. Bixiga 70 mixe ainsi samba, cumbia et autres carimbo à des fulgurances jazz, electro et afrobeat. Un mélange imparable ! D’ailleurs, le nom même de la formation est un pont entre Afrique et Amérique : « Bixiga 70 » est la fusion du quartier dont le groupe est originaire – Bixiga donc – et du légendaire big band de Fela Kuti : Africa 70.
Au Théâtre de verdure du musée du quai Branly, Bixiga 70 interprète des chansons issues de ses trois premiers albums : "Bixiga 70" (2011), "Occupai" (2014) et "III" (2015). Trois opus porteur d’un cocktail détonnant qui atteint son paroxysme sur scène. Impossible de ne pas succomber au charme des dix brésiliens !

Bixiga 70 est un groupe brésilien qui mêle des éléments de la musique africaine, afrobeat, brésilienne, latine et jazz. Formé en 2010, le nom 70 Bixiga est lié à répondre studio techno, où le groupe est né, situé au numéro 70 de la rue Treize mai dans le quartier de Bixiga à São Paulo.
Outre l'influence de la musique des religions afro-brésilienne, la musique malinké, le musicien et activiste politique nigérian Fela Kuti et l'Ethiopie Mulatu Astatke, le groupe a également une influence de musiciens brésiliens comme Gilberto Gil, Pedro Santos, Luiz Gonzaga, Os Tincoãs, Baden Powell, Hermeto Pascoal, Itamar Assumpção, Moacir Santos et Chico science.
Formé en 2010, il a terminé l'année comme l'un des meilleurs spectacles de Guia Folha de S. Paulo de la ville.
L'année suivante a sorti son premier album (Bixiga 70, 2011), co-produit et mixé par les Etats-Unis Victor Rice avec couverture MZK et publié par le label Studio indépendant techno. Sorti en trois formats (CD, vinyle et téléchargement gratuit), le disque était sur plusieurs meilleurs disques de l'année.
En 2012, il a participé à quelques-uns des plus grands festivals au Brésil, comme Recbeat (Recife), Virada Cultural (São Paulo) et a participé au festival Felabration à Amsterdam à côté des musiciens comme Tony Allen, Jungle By Night et Woima collective. Plus tard cette année, son premier album a été nominé pour Contigo Award! musique MPB FM.
En 2013, il a sorti son deuxième album (Bixiga 70, 2013) en trois formats (CD, vinyle et téléchargement gratuit) avec la production et les arrangements écrits par le groupe, enregistré dans studio techno, mélange de Victor Rice et couvre MZK, disque figuré à nouveau dans plusieurs listes des meilleurs albums de l'année. En Juillet de cette année, le groupe a joué en Suède, en Allemagne, en Hollande, en France et au Danemark (Roskilde festival).
En 2014, il a reçu le prix de la musique brésilienne, catégorie Révélation et tournée en France, en Belgique, en Allemagne et au Maroc.
