PRIRODOSLOVNI MUZEJ SLOVENIJE

Državni muzej z naravoslovno, znanstveno in pedagoško vsebino. Najstarejša slovenska kulturna in znanstvena institucija, ki izvira iz Deželnega muzeja ustanovljenega 1821. Muzej z nacionalno, evropsko in svetovno pomembnimi naravoslovnimi študijskimi zbirkami, v katerih so vidne spremembe biotske raznovrstnosti, razvoj naravoslovne miselnosti in tehnik zbiranja ter obdelave muzejskega gradiva. Raziskovalna institucija, ki raziskuje naravo in kulturno dediščino naravnega izvora.

Muzej odlikujejo kar tri znanstvene revije, in sicer SCOPOLIA, Acta entomologica Slovenica in Illiesia (slednji izhajata v sozaložništvu).

Pogled v prihodnost

V muzejski zgradbi na Prešernovi sta kar dva državna muzeja: Prirodoslovni muzej Slovenije in Narodni muzej Slovenije. Novogradnja bo rešila prostorsko stisko obeh, Prirodoslovni muzej Slovenije pa bo v novih prostorih še bolje opravljal svoje poslanstvo.
