DA REDAÇÃO (com Miami Herald) – A artista plástica brasileira Laura Lima está no centro de uma polêmica envolvendo um dos mais conceituados museus de arte contemporânea de Miami, o Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA). Tudo porque, de acordo com a acusação de duas modelos que participaram de sua instalação artística “The Inverse” (atualmente em exibição no ICA), a artista teria as pressionado para que elas introduzissem na vagina uma corda que faz parte da obra. O pedido teria vindo acompanhado da distribuição de preservativos e lubrificantes às mulheres. As informações são do jornal “Miami Herald”, em reportagem publicada na quinta-feira (30).
De acordo com a publicação, a obra de Laura consiste em um emaranhado composto por uma grossa corda cujas pontas estão presas a vãos na estrutura do prédio do museu que permitem visualizar parte das pernas das modelos.
O jornal conta que as modelos participantes da performance pensada pela brasileira vestem roupas criadas pela artista e ganham $15 por hora para se deitarem no chão e colocarem a corda no meio de suas pernas.
Uma descrição de “The Inverse” distribuída a modelos que quisessem participar da performance da obra informava que elas deveriam “interagir passivamente com a escultura, presa a elas, da forma que achassem melhor”. Todas as participantes assinaram um contrato com o ICA.
Obra ‘provocadora’
Tanto a artista quanto a direção do ICA contestam a acusação feita pelas modelos —que não tiveram seu nome divulgado pela reportagem do “Miami Herald”.
“Eu imaginei que seria uma honra participar de uma mostra no ICA e de que seria um trabalho normal, mas não importa quão famoso seja o lugar ou o artista. Se você é uma mulher, está sempre exposta a esse tipo de perigo”, afirmou uma delas ao site “Miami New Times”. A modelo realizou a performance na noite de abertura da mostra, em 3 de junho, e afirma ter sofrido “trauma emocional”.
A diretora do ICA Ellen Salpeter se limitou a enviar o seguinte comunicado ao “Miami Herald”: “O ICA Miami tem o compromisso de ser uma plataforma aberta à inovação, à arte contemporânea experimental e ao debate artístico. ‘The Inverse’ é uma obra que mistura escultura e performance de forma provocadora e que questiona a relação entre arte e corpo.”
A obra da brasileira está em exibição até outubro no museu (que fica no endereço 4040 NE 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33137, no Design District.
