A biblioteca mais antiga do mundo reabrirá as suas portas em Maio de 2016.
Situada em Fez, Marrocos, a biblioteca al-Qarawiyyin foi fundada em 859 e abriga manuscritos que datam de há mais de 12 séculos. Depois de anos e anos de degradação profunda, uma arquiteta marroquina aceitou o desafio de ressuscitar este espaço de conhecimento milenar e já em Maio qualquer pessoa poderá ver os frutos do seu árduo trabalho.
Foi em 2012 que o Ministério da Cultura Marroquino pediu ao programa TED Fellow e à arquiteta Aziza Chaouni para reabilitarem a biblioteca cujo estado de degradação estava a colocar em elevado risco preciosos manuscritos que cobrem séculos de conhecimento em áreas diversas como a Teologia, a Gramática, o Direito ou a Astronomia.
A biblioteca foi originalmente criada por Fatima El-Fihriya, filha de um emigrante rico da atual Tunísia que decidiu usar a totalidade da sua herança num centro de conhecimento para a sua comunidade, desafiando as ideias estabelecidas sobre a contribuição de mulheres no património muçulmano. O al-Qarawiyyin inclui não só uma biblioteca, mas também uma mesquita e uma universidade, que a UNESCO considera ser a instituição educacional mais antiga do mundo.
O desafio para a arquiteta Aziza Chaouni foi não só reabilitar o espaço e preservar a autenticidade original da biblioteca e da sua arquitetura, mas também trazê-la para o século XXI e torná-la perfeitamente funcional para receber regularmente visitantes. A biblioteca incluirá uma sala de leitura, uma sala de conferências, um laboratório de restauração de manuscritos, um café e uma coleção de livros raros. Os últimos retoques estão a ser dados pela arquiteta e em Maio a biblioteca mais antiga do mundo regressará em força do mundo dos mortos.

THE FORMER MORE LIBRARY WORLD in Fez, Morocco, has been restored by two talented Muslim women.
The oldest library in the world will reopen its doors in May 2016.
Located in Fez, Morocco, al-Qarawiyyin library was founded in 859 and houses manuscripts dating back more than 12 centuries. After years and years of deep degradation, a Moroccan architect accepted the challenge to revive this ancient knowledge of space and already in May anyone can see the fruits of their hard work.
It was in 2012 that the Ministry of Moroccan Culture asked the TED Fellow program and the architect Aziza Chaouni to rehabilitate the library whose degradation state was put on high precious risk manuscripts covering centuries of knowledge in areas such as theology, Grammar, Right or astronomy.
The library was originally created by Fatima El-Fihriya, daughter of a wealthy emigrant current Tunisia decided to use all of his inheritance a center of knowledge for your community, challenging established ideas about the contribution of women in the Muslim heritage. Al-Qarawiyyin includes not only a library but also a mosque and university, which UNESCO considers to be the oldest educational institution in the world.
The challenge for Aziza Chaouni architect was not only rehabilitate and preserve the original authenticity of the library and its architecture, but also bring it to the twenty-first century and make it fully functional to receive regular visitors. The library will include a reading room, a conference room, a manuscript restoration laboratory, a café and a collection of rare books. The finishing touches are being taken by the architect and in May the oldest library in the world return in force from the dead.
