Depois de uma restauração completa, iniciada em 2013, a monumental pintura Alegoria às Artes, de Leon Pallière, voltará a ser exibida a partir de 06 de agosto, no Museu Nacional de Belas Artes/IBRAM, quando será aberta a mostra 'Alegoria às Artes – Leon Pallière'.
Encomendada pelo então diretor da Academia Imperial de Belas Artes (AIBA), Manuel de Araújo Porto-Alegre, a tela, medindo 297 x 410 cm, foi produzida em 1855 para decorar o teto da biblioteca da Academia, construída em 1826 e inexplicavelmente demolida entre 1937 e 1938.
A AIBA foi a primeira instituição de ensino oficial da arte no Brasil e seu pórtico se encontra no Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro desde os anos 1940.
A nobreza e a simplicidade das formas e das cores, parâmetros da arte neoclássica, dão a tonalidade da legendária pintura maruflada (colada) no teto da biblioteca, que representa as musas da Arquitetura, da Pintura, da Escultura, da Poesia e da Música.
A exposição 'Alegoria às Artes – Leon Pallière' apresenta documentos, esculturas e mais dois retratos. Segundo um dos curadores, o museólogo Pedro Xexéo, a mostra “permite novas possibilidades de leituras não apenas de uma instituição e de um acervo que demonstram a inesgotável presença da arte brasileira oitocentista na atualidade, como também da chegada e da importância da Missão Artística Francesa no Brasil”. A Missão Artística Francesa chegou ao Brasil em 1816.
Jean-Leon Pallière Grandjean Ferreira (Rio de Janeiro, 1823/Paris, 1887) estudou no ateliê de François-Edouard Picot, na capital francesa, e, aos 25 anos, retornou ao Brasil, tendo ingressado na Academia Imperial de Belas Artes. O artista conquistou um Prêmio de Viagem ao Exterior aperfeiçoando sua arte na Itália.
Neto do conhecido arquiteto Grandjean de Montigny, Leon Pallière realizou diversas viagens pela América do Sul, incluindo uma passagem por Buenos Aires (Argentina), onde ficou até 1866. Seu percurso artístico conheceu muitas transformações ao longo da carreira, com registro de paisagens, aspectos culturais e sociais das tradições populares nas técnicas de aquarela e gravura.
A restauração da “Alegoria às Artes” contou com recursos do PACCH, envolvendo uma parceria entre o MNBA, IBRAM, IPHAN e o Consulado Geral da França no Rio.

According to one of the curators, the museologist Pedro Xexéo, the show "allows new possibilities readings not only of an institution and a collection demonstrating the inexhaustible presence of Brazilian art nineteenth century today, as well as arrival and the importance of the French Artistic Mission in Brazil". The French Artistic Mission arrived in Brazil in 1816.

His artistic journey he met many transformations throughout his career, with landscapes record, aspects cultural and social aspects of popular traditions in watercolor and etching techniques.
