With the controversy, the exhibition that brings together works dealing with the issue of gender and sexuality gained worldwide repercussion and, thanks to the initiative of Cibele Vieira, one of the artists of the exhibition, several of the works censured went to New York.
On Saturday (23), at an event named NY Loves Queermuseu, dozens of works from the exhibition were designed on the facade of the New Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Bushwick Museum.
In addition to the works, messages like "Brazil, the world is watching" ("Brazil, the world is watching"), "dictatorship never again" and "Brazil, show your face" were projected. Also distributed to the people who passed through the streets pamphlets explaining the censorship of Santander Cultural.
The reverse effect of the censorship attempt does not stop there. At the end of last week the newspaper O Globo announced that the Queermuseu show will be exhibited in Rio de Janeiro, information that was confirmed at the weekend by the director of the Rio Art Museum (MAR), Evandro Salles. There is no scheduled date yet for the premiere.

The projections on the façades of the New Museum of Contemporary Art and the Whitney Museum, which hosts until next the 1st day showcasing 150 works by Brazilian artist Hélio Oiticica (1937-1980), exhibited some of the most controversial arts exhibited in Santander Cultural and messages like "Brazil, the world is watching", "Dictatorship no more" and "New York loves Queermuseu". In addition to the galleries, walls in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn also had projected images.
Idealized by Cibele Vieira, one of the artists with works in the Queermuseu, the event called NY loves Queermuseu emerged just over a week after a similar event in Consolação, in São Paulo, and was only possible with the help of collective funding involving Brazilians and the North Americans.

Além das obras, foram projetadas mensagens como “Brazil, the world is watching” (em português, “Brasil, o mundo está assistindo”), “ditadura nunca mais” e “Brasil, mostra a tua cara”. Também foram distribuídos às pessoas que passavam pelas ruas panfletos explicando a censura do Santander Cultural.
O efeito reverso da tentativa de censura não para por aí. No final da semana passada o jornal O Globo anunciou que a mostra Queermuseu será exibida no Rio de Janeiro, informação que foi confirmada no final de semana pelo diretor do Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR), Evandro Salles. Ainda não há data prevista para a estreia.
