Also within the Nara Park, the National Museum of Nara (奈良 国立 博物館 Nara Kokuritsu Hakubutsukan) was established in 1889 and contains a vast collection of Japanese Buddhist art.
In addition to its permanent exhibition, which includes ceremonial objects, statues and paintings, there are also several temporary exhibitions. One of these, from the treasures of the Todai-ji, is held every year in the autumn.
How to get there: JR train - Nara station (walk about 30 minutes, passing through Nara park).
Admission: 520 ¥ (€ 3.90).
Hours: 9:30 am - 5:00 pm (may be extended on Fridays, Saturdays and selected days). Closed on Mondays (or next day, if Monday is a national holiday) and on January 1st.

Ten Kings of Hell_0
It is said that there are ten kings in hell, one of whom is Emma or Enra (Yama). They judge the dead every seventh day between the seventh day and the seventy-seventh day after death, on the hundredth day, and at the first and the third year's anniversaries of death. In China pictures with this motif painted during the tenth century are still extant. Many pieces from the Song and Yuan dynasties were brought to Japan; The works by Lu Xinzhong were the representative pieces among them. The style of the signature in the painting introduced in this article is, though part of the signature is not visible, identical with the one in "Buddha's Nirvana" by Lu Xinzhong kept in the Nara National Museum. In each scroll, a king, who is sitting on a throne and is accompanied by officials, is described. In front of them, those who were found guilty are punished in several ways. The dense arrangement of objects and precise technique are notable in Lu Xinzhong's paintings. The standing screens behind the kings are decorated with landscape paintings in ink. It is interesting to imagine that those landscape paintings painted within the scene of other pictures had some influence on Japanese ink paintings.

Para além da sua exposição permanente, que inclui objetos cerimoniais, estátuas e pinturas, também se realizam várias exposições temporárias. Uma destas, dos tesouros do Todai-ji, realiza-se todos os anos no outono.

Dizem que há dez reis no inferno, um dos quais é Emma ou Enra (Yama). Eles julgam os mortos a cada sétimo dia entre o sétimo dia e o sétimo sétimo dia após a morte, no centésimo dia e nos aniversários de morte do primeiro e terceiro ano. Na China, as imagens com este motivo pintado durante o século X ainda existem. Muitas peças das dinastias Song e Yuan foram trazidas para o Japão; As obras de Lu Xinzhong foram as peças representativas entre elas. O estilo da assinatura na pintura apresentada neste artigo é, embora parte da assinatura não seja visível, idêntica à da "Nirvana de Buda" de Lu Xinzhong, mantida no Museu Nacional de Nara. Em cada rollo, um rei, que está sentado num trono e é acompanhado por funcionários, é descrito. Em frente a eles, aqueles que foram considerados culpados são punidos de várias maneiras. O arranjo denso de objetos e técnica precisa são notáveis nas pinturas de Lu Xinzhong. As telas permanentes atrás dos reis estão decoradas com pinturas de paisagens na tinta.
