L'exposition inaugurale du musée Yves Saint Laurent à Marrakech sera consacrée à l'œuvre de Majorelle et sera ouverte au public à partir du 19 octobre prochain.
On y découvrira une trentaine de toiles du peintre empruntées à des collectionneurs institutionnels et privés, et un livre exceptionnel.
Le musée Yves Saint Laurent de Marrakech ouvre ses portes le 19 octobre, avec une exposition inaugurale intitulée «Le Maroc de Majorelle» et visible jusqu’au 6 février 2018. Hommage au peintre et à son jardin adjacent au musée, cette exposition rassemble une trentaine d'œuvres.
L'événement sera doublé par la présentation en avant-première d'un livre à paraître aux éditions Norma et signé Félix Marcilhac et Amélie Marcillhac, spécialistes mondiaux du peintre: L'année Majorelle.
L'ouvrage rend hommage à la beauté et l’authenticité du monde berbère, à la médina de Marrakech, aux scènes de souks, aux casbahs de l’Atlas ou encore aux portraits réalisés par Majorelle dans son jardin.
Environ 1.400 documents, peintures, aquarelles, dessins, illustrations, photographies, notices biographiques et bibliographiques, témoignent de l’importance de l’œuvre de ce peintre de la couleur et de la fascination de l’artiste pour l’Orient, nourrie par ses nombreux voyages.
L'occasion de revenir sur le parcours de l'artiste qui, fils de l’ébéniste Louis Majorelle, se forme à l’École nationale des beaux-arts appliqués de Nancy, puis à Paris à l’académie Julian, avant d'enchaîner les voyages à partir de l908. Jacques Majorelle se rend ainsi en Espagne, en Égypte puis en Italie avant de s’établir au Maroc en 1917. Entre les deux guerres, il découvre le Soudan, la Guinée, le Mali, le Sénégal et la Côte d’Ivoire.
Tout au long de sa vie, l’artiste développera un langage chromatique singulier dépouillé de toute influence, qui lui donne une place à part tout en faisant de lui une figure majeure de l’Orientalisme.
