A influência colonial portuguesa foi uma das maiores armas de
conservação da cultura portuguesa. E um dos lugares que mais conseguiu
transmitir isso a papel químico até aos dias de hoje é, não
surpreendentemente, o continente africano. Voemos para Cabo Verde, até à
Cidade Velha de Santiago. Estamos na primeira cidade construída pelos
europeus a sul do deserto do Saara e considerada em 2009 como uma das
Sete Maravilhas de Origem Portuguesa no Mundo.
A sua multiplicidade e riquezas locais fazem dela um lugar de
excelência onde o património português mais se notabilizou além
fronteiras: desde pelourinhos, a igrejas de estilo manuelino, à
Companhia de Jesus, urbanização das ruas… Antes chamada Ribeira Grande,
no século XV, esta foi a primeira capital de Cabo Verde e a sede da
primeira diocese da costa ocidental africana. E, claro, foi aqui também
que os navegadores corajosos, Vasco da Gama e Cristóvão Colombo, fizeram
escala para chegar à Índia e às Américas, respetivamente. O mundo
passou por Cabo Verde e convém, também, que passes por lá.
Fortaleza de Mazagão, Marrocos
Se tivéssemos vivido pelo ano 1541, teríamos visto este monumento a
ser construído. Mas, no entanto, ainda vamos a tempo de saborear a sua
imagem. A Fortaleza de Mazagão, em Marrocos, é atualmente um dos
monumentos portugueses e uma das fortalezas portuguesas em melhor estado
de conservação, onde se pode ver uma mistura de cultura portuguesa e
marroquina.
A sua sala tem um formato de estrelas, muralhas ligeiramente
inclinadas e cerca de 8 metros de altura e 10 de espessura. Acredita-se
que serviria para armazenamento de armas, antes de ser transformar num
reservatório de água, na qual reflete a luz que entra pelo amplo óculo
no topo. Há, ainda, um grande número de peças de artilharia portuguesa
em exposição nas canhoneiras. Não fiques espantado se te contarmos que
este lugar já serviu também de inspiração e de empréstimo a cenários da
Sétima Arte em filmes produzidos, por exemplo, por Francis Ford Coppola.
Pouco gente sabe que este património cultural português, já figurou em
filmes de grandes diretores cinematográficos.
Fortaleza de Diu, Índia
Rochosa, penetrante. Este património cultural português é dos mais
robustos monumentos portugueses existentes. E é por essas razões, que
ela foi eleita uma das maravilhas. A Fortaleza de Diu, na Índia, teve o
seu início em 1535 e foi considerada uma das fortificações mais bem
conseguidas no Estado Português da Índia.
Estrategicamente bem colocada, sofreu diversos ataques de árabes,
turcos e indianos, e permaneceu intacta na sua raiz. Foi um importante
lugar no comércio marítimo das especiarias e sedas, e os sete
quilómetros de perímetro conferem-lhe um tamanho motivo de orgulho para
quem vive em Diu.
Não te esqueças: quando estiveres a planear o teu retiro espiritual
na Índia, coloca a Fortaleza de Diu nos locais obrigatórios a visitar.
Afinal, é uma das 7 Maravilhas de origem portuguesa e um representante

Nasceu e cresceu em apenas nove anos (um recorde de construção para o
século XVI) e é o berço do túmulo de São Francisco Xavier, considerado o
Apóstolo do Oriente. Em 1946, tornou-se na primeira basílica da Índia,
contudo continua sendo dos monumentos portugueses onde ainda é possível
fazer peregrinação nos dias de hoje.
Lá dentro, podes pisar o chão feito de mármore e as pedras preciosas
incrustadas. O altar é dedicado a Santo Inácio de Loiola e as suas
colunas são jónicas, dóricas e coríntias. Ah, tal como na maravilha
anterior, na Índia, coloca esta basílica na lista de monumentos
portugueses a conhecer obrigatoriamente.
Igreja de São Francisco de Assis da Penitência, Brasil
Estamos em Ouro Preto, no estado de Minas Gerais, no Brasil! A
decoração barroca faz da Igreja de São Francisco da Penitência uma das
mais importantes da cidade e erguida entre 1790 e 1794 pela Ordem
Terceira de São Francisco de Assis.
A fachada deste edifício, pouco comum para coisas religiosas, desde
logo faz com que se destaque. Os portais são de pedra de lioz e os
cunhais torcidos e barrocos. No interior, o espanto é coisa que não te
vai faltar. Com talha dourada nos altares e paredes e pintura de forro
de madeira no teto, a igreja vai impingir-te um sentimento de respeito
por tamanha grandiosidade.
Sim, e não te admires. Isto este património português, é obra dos
portugueses (claro!) Manuel de Brito e Francisco Xavier de Brito e de
Caetano da Costa Coelho, este último responsável pela pintura no teto.
Hoje, a igreja é também Museu de Arte Sacra. A ir, quando visitares o
estado de Minas.
Convento de São Francisco e Ordem Terceira, Brasil
Ainda no Brasil, este convento prima pela beleza dos seus espaços
conventuais com a sua igreja e o poder dos seus azulejos decorativos.
Construído a partir de 1713, pela mão de Manuel Quaresma, o edifício tem
detalhes incríveis como a história do casamento do futuro rei D. José
com a princesa D. Mariana Vitória contada no claustro da igreja, ou
ainda como era Lisboa antes dos terramoto de 1755, em mais de 1500
quadrados de azulejos.
É um dos melhores monumentos portugueses e um dos melhores exemplos
de arte Barroca no Brasil e tem origem nos tempos em que Portugal era um
gigante colonizador. Até o arenito que cobre a fachada da igreja foi de
Portugal para o outro lado do Atlântico. São Salvador da Bahia é um
lugar sortudo por ter esta riqueza no seu solo…
Igreja de São Paulo, Macau – China
Macau, um antigo lugar onde até há bem pouco tempo se ouvia conversar
em português em todas as esquinas. Agora, já sob administração chinesa,
o território macaense ainda mantém algumas influência do pequeno
retângulo mais a ocidente da Europa. Neste caso em específico, a
influência de Portugal viajou também até à Ásia e desta se ergueu a
Igreja de São Paulo, composta pelo Colégio (primeira instituição de
ensino ocidental no Oriente) e as famosas ruínas de São Paulo.
No topo de uma valente escadaria de granito com 68 degraus, está a
grandiosa fachada da igreja, que foi destruída em 1835 por um grande
incêndio. A beleza desta herança cultural portuguesa foi incluída no
Centro Histórico de Macau. Esta, é a única réstia de arquitetura barroca
na China! E é portuguesa! Cultura portuguesa!
