A COFFEE WITH ALESSANDRA ARAUJO. WHAT IS BIOMIMICRY THINKING? - UM CAFÉ COM ALESSANDRA ARAUJO. O QUE É BIOMIMICRY THINKING?

Alessandra Araujo, specialist in Biomimicry Thinking, Biomimética since 2012 and Biologist with extensive experience in sustainability and urbanism. Alessandra has been managing Architecture and Urbanism projects GCP - Brazil for 14 years.

"... everything starts from a challenge, from a need to solve a theme, from seeking something better than what has already been thought and for this, creativity is the key to the process ..."

Alessandra has already carried out several consultancies that connect design to nature, such as the Votu Hotel project that was fully conceptualized and developed with Biomimicry Thinking.

"Biomimetics is the bridge of connects science to design / creation / innovation .."

It develops social and environmental diagnoses for public areas and communities. Participates as author of good practices for the CBCS - Brazilian Council for Sustainable Construction.

In addition, she is Professor and lecturer of Biomimética of the AA (Architectural Association) Amazon Visiting School.

Biomimicry Thinking has some similarities with Design Thinking in what it is to understand the essence of challenge and creation and a process of co-creation and interdisciplinary. Fundamentally in Biomimicry Thinking there are two important differences that are the functional part of the challenge and the biological search.

The functional question is to focus on what the design will do "to do" and not what it will be "to be". It does not necessarily need to be created a lamp to illuminate, but rather a process of illumination, because the function in this example is to illuminate. And it is through function that one can connect with nature, for the vast majority of functions are performed by nature.

Returning to the example of enlightenment, how does nature create light? From this moment the scientific research initiated and is chosen which organisms and their mechanisms that perform the functions sought. After this the creation starts based on the chosen mechanism and so is the creation inspired by nature. Biomimetics is the bridge of connects science to design / creation / innovation.

A. Creativity within work. It's Full. For everything starts from a challenge, from a need to solve a theme, from seeking something better than has already been thought and for this creativity is the key to the process. And because biomimetics occurs in interdisciplinary teams, creativity is the bond of union, it is what connects the universes of design with nature to have a result. Biomimetics is a free path and traced with creativity.

I believe what we learn from biomimetics are several things, such as the high technology played in nature, and through this knowledge we come to have more understanding of the natural system in which we are part.

We learn to observe and connect with the living universe. Observing is one of the most important things, for often the answer is to stop the mind and observe what is around us. A playful and beautiful process. I believe that with Biomimética there is a bottleneck of what is the essence of necessity and this always results in something very innovative.

Any area or segment can apply Biomimetics, because the process starts from a demand, a need to solve a theme or an inspiration.

Many companies are using biomimetics in the construction of products and services, from automotive to construction. Areas such as medicine, infrastructure and consumer goods.

A questão funcional é focar o que o design vai fazer “to do” e não o que será “to be”.

A.criatividade dentro do trabalho.

Museum of Ancient Things is Afro-Brazilian historical and cultural memory in Cabula. Inauguration took place in 1982 and the museum was installed on the lower floor of Xango House.

The history of the Cabula is confused with the history of the Africans here in the city of Salvador, Bahia. This was because the neighborhood was populated by blacks, mainly from the Congo and Angola, who played and danced the Kabula rhythm, which eventually gave rise to the name of the neighborhood. In the following years, famous Quicong priests and candomblé priests settled there, and later the Nagoos began to lodge in the region.

In 1910 the terreiro Ilê Axé Opô Afonjá was founded, in Rua Direta do São Gonçalo do Retiro, in Cabula district. Thus, the customs of the first peoples inhabiting the neighborhood were kept alive through the members of the House of Xango, as the terreiro is also known.

The purpose of the museum's foundation was to protect, disseminate and enhance the heritage and heritage of Ilê Axé Opô Afonjá, constituting a living space where the memory and the secular traditions of the house of worship are preserved. It also serves as a space for those who research on the Afro-Brazilian religion.

The museum operates from Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 12 noon and from 2 pm to 6 pm. On Saturdays, the place also opens, running from 8am to 12pm. The museum is located in Rua Direta de São Gonçalo do Retiro, 557, Cabula. Admission is free.

The House of Ancient Things underwent a requalification in 2011, held by the Secretary of Culture of the State of Bahia, through the Directorate of Museums of the Institute of Cultural and Artistic Heritage of Bahia (DIMUS / IPAC).

The renovation structurally requalified the interior space of the museum, reshaping its physical facilities to a new expographic design.

A entrada é gratuita.
