The queen's tea service and other Winnie-the-Pooh stories.

The adventures of the teddy bear and something naive have charmed children and adults for more than nine decades. Now it's time for the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to tell the story of Winnie-the-Pooh in an exhibition that includes letters, photographs, manuscripts, original drawings and even the tea service offered to Elizabeth II when she was two years old

A.A. Milne, Winnie the Pooh Re-publicado no The Huffington Post.

After David Bowie and Pink Floyd, it was time for Teddy Winnie. The Victoria and Albert Museum in London today inaugurates a mega-exhibition dedicated to the sympathetic bear and honey-loving bonoeirão, created in 1926 by A. A. Milne. Winnie-the-Pooh: Exploring the Classic occupies a huge gallery of V & A, one of the largest museums in the world, and expects to reach the record visitor numbers achieved by exhibitions that in 2013 (Bowie) and Pink Floyd (2017) two giants of popular music of the twentieth century.

The target audience this time is the family. "Everybody loves Winnie-the-Pooh," he told DN Emma Laws, one of the show's co-curators, during an open visit to the international press. "This exhibition allows us to discover, or rediscover, one of the most famous and popular children's characters of all time," Laws said. This discovery can be made - conveniently, say the most cynical - as early as December, a few weeks before Christmas. The show runs through the Easter holidays (ends on April 8) and, like Bowie and Pink Floyd, includes a huge range of souvenirs, priced at between £ 1 and £ 250, which visitors can buy.

The V & A gallery includes about 230 objects linked to the story of Winnie-the-Pooh and its creators, writer and playwright Alan Alexander Milne (1882-1956) and artist Ernest Howard Shepard (1879-1976). Among the objects are letters, photographs, manuscripts, Shepard's beautiful original drawings, video clips and relics such as a 1929 audio recording of Milne to read excerpts from the Winnie-the-Pooh book. In one of the rooms is the re-creation of Christopher Robin's room. Visitors can stroll in the Hundred Acres Forest, with five-foot-high hand-painted walls. Or cross the bridge of the Poohsticks. The show has a handful of multisensory experiences, including talking trees, a huge hat under which you can hear stories, the obligatory digital displays and dozens of blue balloons ("No one can be discouraged by balloons," he wrote once Milne)

The stories of this teddy bear and something naive, not very clever, with a great predilection for condensed milk and honey pots, were an immediate success. In 1924, AA Milne published a first book of children's poems that included, among others, a story about a bear (apparently Milne was uninspired and it was the woman, Daphne, who made him write "one of those sleeping stories, about the bear" , which he used to tell his son Christopher Robin). Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends Igor, Piglet, Rabbit, Owl, Kanga (and son Rú), and Tigre, followed the book Winnie-the-Pooh (1926) for the first time. In the first year, more than 150,000 copies were sold in the United States. Another book of poems, in 1927, included several passages about Winnie-the-Pooh. In 1928, finally, A. A. Milne published The House at Pooh Corner, as always illustrated by E. H. Shepard.

The four books are translated into 46 languages, including a Latin version which in 1958 made its way to the New York Times bestseller list (in Portugal, the first edition of Winnie-the-Pooh was published in 1962 with the unexpected title of Joanica-Puff). Winnie-the-Pooh also inspired books of Chinese philosophy and religion. The film was a global phenomenon, especially after the Walt Disney Company films, which bought the rights in 1966, came on the scene. Even today it lends name to punk / metal bands in Estonia or symphonic rock in Italy.

O público-alvo, desta vez, é a família. "Toda a gente adora o Winnie-the-Pooh.

Shepard.

First museum entirely dedicated to design is inaugurated in China.

The first Chinese cultural center entirely dedicated to design, known as Design Society, has just opened in Shenzhen. Designed by the famous Japanese architect Fumihiko Maki, the new building at the port of Shekou will serve as a kind of platform that will house the museum's innovative program of activities, highlighting the various fields of design in a "thought-provoking visitor experience."

"Today, we are presenting a new platform for China to showcase its creativity to the world and to promote research for new sources of inspiration around the world," said Ole Bouman, Director of the Design Society Foundation, during the inauguration event. "We are excited and eager to introduce the Cultural Center of the Design Society as a place dedicated to expanding and enriching the design environment of Shenzhen and China, providing a platform for exchanging experience with other institutions around the world. a vast network of cultural partners and also thanks to the agenda of events, exhibitions and creative activities, the Design Society will be given a permanent debate with open arms that should further enrich our goal of developing projects for society in general. "

The museum, better known as the Sea World Culture and Arts Center (SWCAC), is the first Fumihiko Maki project built in China. Characterized by a high-tech architecture and inspired by Shekou's natural landscape, the 70,000-square-meter building will house several exhibitions simultaneously on its six floors, which will feature several exhibition spaces, among them: the V & A gallery (a pioneering collaboration between the founders of the Design Society and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London); the Park View gallery; the Shenzhen UCCN Exchange Center, the Shekou Museum of Reform and Opening and the Shenzhen Guanfu Museum; plus multipurpose spaces for events such as the Mountain View Theater and Horizon Hall; plus shopping areas that house F & B, EXTRA TIME, Chunmanyuan and The Purple outlets.

Three exhibits are planned for the museum's inauguration event, all designed by architects, including an exhibition on the SWCAC project itself; an exhibition designed by MVRDV on the impact of the digital era on human values; and an exhibition of 250 design objects from the V & A permanent collection, designed by Sam Jacob Studio.

"The inauguration of the Design Society is a unique moment for the history of Shenzhen, China and for all designers," said Tim Reeve, Deputy Director of V & A. I am very proud, as a founding partner of the Design Society Foundation, that V & A collaborated with the China Merchants Group and the other Design Society colleagues in building this new cultural platform and that this new V & A Gallery and future exhibitions can present the best of international design. Important curators and educators were responsible for coaching the team, sharing ideas and deepening research as part of an exchange that benefits us all. "

Design Society is a new cultural platform that generates a diverse public programme with the mission to activate design as a social catalyst. Design Society adheres to the pioneering spirit of Shekou and Shenzhen in creating a unique cultural experience and in programming a public space dedicated to design. It shows and tells the power of design through major exhibitions about the past, present and future of design, through curated shopping experiences and multi-faceted events. Entrepreneurial activities support and leverage the not-for-profit programme in order to build an innovative and sustainable new institution. Design Society is an open and collaborative platform, fostering synergies, connecting China and the world, and empowering the inter-connectivity between design and society, design and everyday life, and design and industry. Design Society will test new ideas, incubate new talents and explore new opportunities for creative industries. The encouragement of creative dialogue and collaborations aims to design a better society.

What is Design Society

Design Society is many things. Its identity lies in its capacity to combine, connect, cross-fertilize and, by doing so, transcend cultural territories and boundaries as we know them. It is many things, and at the same time it is clearly a new thing that requires its own name to go beyond the sum of its parts: hence Design Society.

What We Offer

While preparing Design Society for its public life, we have always believed its cultural program should be diverse, animated, relevant, participatory and catering to both the design professional and the general visitor. But most of all, we believed that it should acquire an inspirational quality. Design Society, by its very nature, can only be for the public and for the community.

Design Society Social Response

Design Society is not here to serve itself, but to serve society. To become a true house of ideas, that is academically rigorous yet fully accessible, we have developed a multifaceted and innovative public learning program that stimulates creative thinking and that engages with the world around us.

Design Society Platform

Our dynamic logo mark represents our spirit best: Design Society is a platform, where design is connected to the public and various industries in the most inclusive manner, and where culture and enterprise mutually inspire. As we aim to become an institution which enjoys discovering, experimenting and contributing to the future of Chinese creativity and beyond, Design Society is a place to connect and to spark new collaborations between design and people, institutions, industry, commerce, and daily life.

How to run a platform

Design Society will be a major attraction for Shekou for a long time to come, and a beacon for Shenzhen in its efforts to position itself as a Design City. At the same time, it will take a leadership role in positioning design as a key factor for societal, ecological and economic renewal in China, providing a powerful innovation agenda.

Where we work

Design Society is housed in the Sea World Culture and Arts Center (SWCAC), and oversees its cultural operations. Located in the Sea World coastal city complex in Shekou, Shenzhen: it is designed by renowned architectural studio Maki and Associates, led by Fumihiko Maki. The elegant white stone building features three cantilevered volumes, opening up horizons to the surrounding mountain, sea and city, symbolizing Design Society’s role to become an important cultural interface between China and the world, and its ambition to explore new frontiers for design.
