The museum of Montpellier does not have any painting of the master in his collections. In order to give the artist a first impression, the museum entered the "Picasso-Mediterranean" season, driven by the Picasso-Paris National Museum. This exhibition is based on an exceptional collection of works loaned by the Musée National Picasso - Paris. This selection is completed by loans from other museums, French and foreign institutions (Picasso Museums of Antibes and Barcelona, Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, National Gallery of Art, Washington, Kunsthaus Zürich, Berggruen Museum Berlin ...) and large private collections. In total more than one hundred and twenty works of all kinds - paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, ceramics ... - as well as documentary pieces will be exhibited.
The artist is considered the founder of Cubism. Picasso stayed in Montpellier in October 1926 and spent many summers at the edge of the Mediterranean.
