Os cientistas vão invadir bares e restaurantes de 22 cidades brasileiras, conectados a um dos maiores eventos de divulgação científica do mundo, que acontecerá simultaneamente em mais 10 países
Divulgar a ciência para o público em geral é o fio condutor de uma iniciativa que vai unir Brasil, Alemanha, Austrália, Áustria, Canadá, Espanha, França, Irlanda, Itália e Reino Unido.Mais de 100 cidades espalhadas por esses 10 países realizarão simultaneamente, nos dias 15, 16 e 17 de maio, um dos maiores festivais de divulgação científica do mundo: o Pint of Science.
“Este ano, o evento se expandiu e alcançará 22 cidades em todo o Brasil”, revela a coordenadora nacional da iniciativa, Natalia Pasternak. O Pint of Science pode ser comparado a um grande festival de música, em que os artistas se apresentam simultaneamente em vários palcos a cada noite. Só que, nesse caso, em vez de artistas, há pesquisadores conversando com o público em restaurantes, cafés e bares. No lugar da música, a melodia que será ouvida nesses palcos está relacionada a biologia, computação, engenharia, estatística, filosofia, física, história, matemática, química, sociologia e muito mais.
“O Brasil é o primeiro país sul-americano a fazer parte do festival e o sucesso estrondoso de 2016 mostra que os brasileiros amam ciência e querem realmente matar sua sede de conhecimento”, destaca Michael Motskin, diretor e fundador do Pint of Science. O festival nasceu em 2013 na Inglaterra e chegou ao país em 2015, quando o Instituto de Ciências Matemáticas e de Computação (ICMC) da USP realizou o evento em São Carlos, no interior paulista, colocando o Brasil no mapa do Pint of Science.
Em 2016, a faísca da divulgação científica se espalhou por sete municípios brasileiros e, este ano, atingirá 10 cidades paulistas: Araraquara, Botucatu, Campinas, Piracicaba, Ribeirão Preto, Santos, São Caetano do Sul, São Paulo, São Carlos e Sorocaba. Além disso, a iniciativa chegará a municípios brasileiros localizados no Sul, no Nordeste e no Centro-Oeste: Belo Horizonte (MG), Blumenau (SC), Brasília (DF), Curitiba (PR), Dourados (MS), Florianópolis (SC), Goiânia (GO), Natal (RN), Porto Alegre (RS), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Salvador (BA) e Teresina (PI).
O evento é gratuito no Brasil e as pessoas só pagarão o que consumirem nos locais em que acontecerão os bate-papos científicos. “A ciência brasileira enfrenta uma de suas maiores crises de financiamento e credibilidade. Por isso, divulgá-la nunca foi tão importante e tão urgente quanto agora”, explica a coordenadora nacional, que é doutora em genética molecular pelo Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas da USP.
Rede de voluntários
Em cada uma das 22 cidades brasileiras que realizarão o Pint of Science, existe um grupo de voluntários trabalhando para organizar os diversos bate-papos com os pesquisadores. Há um coordenador em cada cidade, bem como coordenadores regionais. O desafio deles é levar o conhecimento científico à população, de uma forma descomplicada, possibilitando que as pessoas esclareçam suas dúvidas diretamente com quem faz ciência. “Restaurantes, cafés e bares também são lugares adequados para os cientistas divulgarem suas pesquisas. Nosso objetivo é mostrar que, sem ciência, tecnologia e inovação, não existe desenvolvimento”, acrescenta Natalia.
De acordo com a coordenadora, o Pint of Science possibilita, ainda, que a população conheça como é o trabalho de um pesquisador, uma jornada repleta de encantos e desencantos, tal como a trajetória de qualquer outro profissional. Dessa forma, cria-se a oportunidade para o estabelecimento de uma comunicação mais informal, descontraída e humana entre os cientistas e a população: “É um momento para nos unirmos e fazermos um brinde à ciência, rompendo todas as fronteiras”.
A programação dos bate-papos que acontecerão nas 22 cidades brasileiras será disponibilizada no site do evento a partir do dia 27 de março. O Pint of Science conta com o apoio de várias instituições e já confirmaram patrocínio em âmbito nacional a Elsevier, a empresa Galoá e três Centros de Pesquisa, Inovação e Difusão (CEPID), apoiados pela Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP): o Centro de Ciências Matemáticas Aplicadas à Indústria; o Centro de Pesquisa em Obesidade e Comorbidades; e o Centro de Pesquisa, Educação e Inovação em Vidros.

"Brazil is the first South American country to be part of the festival and the booming success of 2016 shows that Brazilians love science and really want to quench their thirst for knowledge," said Michael Motskin, director and founder of Pint of Science. The festival was born in 2013 in England and arrived in the country in 2015, when the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science (ICMC) of the USP held the event in São Carlos, in the interior of São Paulo, putting Brazil on the map of Pint of Science.
In 2016, the spark of scientific dissemination spread to seven Brazilian municipalities, and this year will reach 10 cities in São Paulo: Araraquara, Botucatu, Campinas, Piracicaba, Ribeirão Preto, Santos, São Caetano do Sul, São Paulo, São Carlos and Sorocaba. Network of volunteers
In each of the 22 Brazilian cities that will carry out the Pint of Science, there is a group of volunteers working to organize the various chats with the researchers. There is a coordinator in each city as well as regional coordinators. Their challenge is to bring scientific knowledge to the people in an uncomplicated way, enabling people to clarify their doubts directly with the scientist. "Restaurants, cafes and bars are also appropriate places for scientists to publicize their research. Our goal is to show that, without science, technology and innovation, there is no development, "adds Natalia.
According to the coordinator, the Pint of Science also makes it possible for the population to know how a researcher's work is, a journey full of charms and disenchantment, just like the career of any other professional. This creates the opportunity to establish a more informal, relaxed and humane communication between scientists and the population: "It's a time to unite and make a toast to science, breaking all frontiers."
The schedule of the chats that will take place in the 22 Brazilian cities will be available on the website of the event starting on March 27. The Pint of Science is supported by several institutions and has already confirmed national sponsorship of Elsevier, the company Galoá and three Research, Innovation and Dissemination Centers (CEPID), supported by the Foundation for Research Support of the State of São Paulo ( FAPESP): the Center for Mathematical Sciences Applied to Industry; The Research Center on Obesity and Comorbidities; And the Center for Research, Education and Innovation in Glass.
