O Terras sem Sombra, um pequeno festival fora das grandes capitais, que já é considerado o 5º melhor da Europa na sua categoria, juntando música sacra a património cultural e ambiental, e que leva o público à descoberta de algumas das mais belas igrejas do Alentejo, começa no sábado, dia 11 de Fevereiro, com o concerto de abertura na Igreja de Santo Ildefonso, em Almodôvar.
Este concerto apresentará uma inédita fusão músico-espiritual de Barroco e Flamenco. Marcado para as 21h30, estará a cargo da sevilhana Accademia del Piaccere, um grupo de referência da música antiga, que é considerado um dos principais ensembles da Europa.
Tem como diretor musical Fahmi Alqhai, que a crítica aclama como um dos mais brilhantes e prestigiados jovens intérpretes de viola da gamba no mundo, pela sua abordagem pessoal e comunicativa dos repertórios antigos e contemporâneos.
Em Almodôvar, o maestro Alqhai, acompanhado na viola da gamba por Rami Alqhai e Johanna Rose, contará ainda com a participação do celebradíssimo cantaor Arcángel, uma das grandes vozes andaluzas da atualidade, a que se associam também Pedro Esteban, o famoso percussionista que integra os agrupamentos Hespèrion XXI e Capella Reial de Catalunya, dirigidos por Jordi Savall, e o exímio guitarrista Dani de Morón, outro vulto famoso do flamenco.

Na realidade, o Festival Terras sem Sombra até começa umas horas antes do concerto inaugural. É que às 14h30 deste sábado, dia 11, em Almodôvar, terá lugar a estreia da novidade deste ano: as visitas ao património do centro histórico de cidades e vilas que integram o Festival.
Desenvolvido por especialistas no estudo do património cultural e natural, o percurso tem como palco a vila de Almodôvar e como ponto de encontro o espaço onde se realiza o concerto, a igreja matriz de Santo Ildefonso.
Aos participantes na deambulação é dada a oportunidade de se familiarizarem com um bem patrimonial inédito (ou ainda pouco conhecido do público). Neste caso, o epicentro da visita é o convento franciscano de Nossa Senhora da Conceição. As igrejas de Santo Ildefonso (matriz) e da Misericórdia, a antiga cadeia, algumas casas particulares, lojas e outros edifícios e monumentos de especial interesse artístico ou histórico balizarão um itinerário que fundará no Museu da Escrita do Sudoeste. Haverá ainda tempo para se observar, a partir de um ponto alto, os arredores da vila branca, com as suas características “cercas”.
No domingo, depois do concerto, como é hábito, esta primeira etapa do Festival termina com o passeio pela biodiversidade na Serra de Mú.
Segundo ponto mais alto da Serra do Caldeirão, com 577 metros, esta constitui um extenso relevo xistograuváquico de formas arredondadas, entrecortado por rios e ribeiras. É um território singular na flora (densa e fechada nas umbrias, onde dominam o medronheiro, o sobreiro, a azinheira, a urze e o rosmaninho) e na fauna (de que se destaca a imponente águia-de-bonelli).
O sustento dos habitantes provém da floresta, da pecuária e dos recursos silvestres. Entre estes, sobressai a cortiça, de magnífica qualidade, graças à densidade que a caracteriza.
Não obstante, o equilíbrio do meio serrano está comprometido devido à ocorrência de fogos florestais de assinalável magnitude, nomeadamente o grande incêndio de 2004, no qual arderam cerca de 30 000 hectares.
De então para cá, verificaram-se mudanças: a serra perdeu população e viu transformar o capital florestal, mas assistiu também ao incremento dos trabalhos de prevenção e ao surgimento de novas oportunidades em torno dos recursos silvestres. Nesta atividade, procuramos compreender tal evolução, avaliar o seu impacto na salvaguarda da biodiversidade e apontar caminhos para o futuro.
Esta atividade em volta da biodiversidade, que une de forma inédita património cultural a património ambiental, é, no fundo, mais uma forma diferente que o Terras sem Sombra tem de «dar a sentir o território» do Baixo Alentejo, onde se desenvolve o festival.

O concerto de abertura em Almodôvar não será a única vez que o Terras sem Sombra de 2017 irá cruzar-se com o flamenco, num ano em que, sob o mote do diálogo ibérico, será estabelecida «uma série de olhares de cumplicidade com Espanha», como explicou, na apresentação do festival, em Serpa, o seu diretor artístico, Juan Ángel Vela del Campo.
Aliás, será em Serpa, mas a 6 de Maio, num concerto ao ar livre na Praça da República, que terá lugar o singular concerto da cantaora cigana Esperanza Fernández, acompanhada pelo guitarrista granadino Miguel Ángel Cortés. Será o flamenco «na sua dimensão mais pura», como sublinhou o diretor artístico.
Temas profundamente religiosos como o Agnus Dei, o Kyrie ou o Cordero de Dios, em ritmos de soleá, petenera ou siguriya, respetivamente, vão alternar com outros inspirados no escritor português José Saramago, a quem a cantaora sevilhana do bairro de Triana dedicou um disco intitulado «Mi voz en tu palabra».
De cruzamentos ibéricos – e não só – se fará esta edição do Festival Terras sem Sombra. Na apresentação, em Serpa, há duas semanas, as vozes infantis de meia centena de crianças do projeto «Cante nas Escolas», dirigido por Pedro Mestre, o grande cultor da viola campaniça e do cante, mostraram a força desta música que, tal como o flamenco, é Património Imaterial da Humanidade.
No fim de semana passado, em Sevilha, no Consulado Geral de Portugal, houve quase um “ato de geminação” entre o cante e o flamenco, no momento mágico em que Esperanza Fernández se encontrou com o Rancho dos Cantadores de Aldeia Nova de S. Bento.
O Festival Terras sem Sombra, que integra oito concertos, outras tantas visitas culturais e atividades de biodiversidade, continua a 4 de Março, em Odemira. Às 15h00 desse sábado, haverá visita guiada ao centro histórico da vila, seguindo-se, às 21h30, na Igreja de São Salvador, o concerto «De Beate Virgine Maria: Música Portuguesa de Invocação Mariana», com o grupo «Polyphonos», composto por Raquel Alão (soprano), José Bruto da Costa (barítono e musicólogo), Carolina Figueiredo (mezzosoprano), Marco Alves dos Santos (tenor) e Tiago Mota (baixo).
No domingo, 5 de Março, o programa de salvaguarda da biodiversidade associado ao Festival vai levar os seus participantes (músicos, público) aos meandros do Mira, num percurso de barco. Será um passeio à descoberta da «biodiversidade deste rio muito particular do nosso Sudoeste», que até tem «pradarias na zona do estuário e uma população de lontras marinhas», como explicou Pedro Rocha, do ICNF, responsável por esta vertente ambiental do Terras sem Sombra.
A 25 de Março, o Festival chega a Santiago do Cacém. Depois da visita ao centro histórico (15h00), às 21h30 a Igreja de Santiago Maior recebe o concerto «Perpétuo Movimento: em torno d’A Arte da Fuga», com os nova-iorquinos Brentano String Quartet. Como recordou o diretor artístico Juan Ángel Vela na apresentação em Serpa, «este quarteto está a fazer uma digressão por Londres, Paris, Madrid e outras grandes capitais europeias…e vem a Santiago do Cacém», que não é propriamente uma grande metrópole.
Mas o premiadíssimo quarteto de Nova Iorque achou piada ao convite que lhe foi feito pelo pequeno, mas diferente, Festival Terras sem Sombra e aceitou estar no Alentejo, para apresentar um «programa de alta exigência», à volta dos estudos de violino. «Eles viram, pela internet, as fotografias da igreja matriz de Santiago Maior e mostraram-se muito agradados com o monumento». E por isso será em Santiago do Cacém que o quarteto residente da mítica Yale School of Music irá terminar a sua digressão europeia.
No dia seguinte, domingo, 26 de Março, o passeio ambiental será pela paisagem cultural em torno do Convento do Loreto. Aqui, onde existe uma «ocupação ancestral com um sobreiral notável», os participantes irão plantar sobreiros, mas, mais do que isso, como sublinhou Pedro Rocha, serão instituídos patronos dessas árvores, «para que elas vinguem».
O Festival chega a Castro Verde e à sua Basílica Real de Nossa Senhora da Conceição no dia 8 de Abril. A visita guiada ao centro histórico da vila vai ter lugar às 15h00, para, às 21h30, se apresentar «O Castelo de Barba-Azul», de Béla Bartók, num programa todo ele concebido na Academia Franz Liszt, de Budapeste (Hungria), «viveiro de brilhantes solistas». Neste concerto, estarão o tenor Antal Cseh e a mezzosoprano Apollónia Szolnoki, acompanhados ao piano por András Rákai.
Em Castro Verde, no domingo, dia 9 de Abril, serão a transumância e a lã a marcar a atividade em prol da biodiversidade. Os participantes no Festival irão acompanhar a tosquia tradicional de ovelhas autóctones (das raças merino e campaniça) e visitar o pólo do Lombador do Museu da Ruralidade, recentemente inaugurado, e que se dedica à tecelagem da lã.
A 6 de Maio, será então a vez de Serpa receber o concerto «A minha voz na tua palavra: da devoção popular à poesia de Saramago», com a cantaora Esperanza Fernández e o guitarrista Miguel Ángel Cortés, «quiçá o melhor acompanhador de guitarra», como garantiu o diretor artístico do Festival. O concerto é às 21h30, mas às 15h00 haverá visita guiado ao centro histórico, enquanto no domingo, dia 7, o tema do percurso ambiental será o «engenho humano e o olival tradicional em torno da Serra de Ficalho».
No dia 27 de Maio, depois da visita ao centro histórico (15h00) de Ferreira do Alentejo, o concerto (21h30) será na Igreja matriz de Nossa Senhora da Assunção, desta vez tendo como mote «Um espaço comum: aspetos da tradição lírica em Portugal e Espanha». A música estará a cargo da mezzosoprano Elena Gragera e do pianista Antón Cardó.
No domingo, dia 28, a atividade ambiental dará a conhecer outro grande rio do Alentejo, desta vez o Sado, sobretudo este troço desconhecido, ainda bem longe do seu estuário.
Em Sines, a 3 de Junho, será a Igreja Matriz de São Salvador (21h30) a acolher o concerto, já se sabe que depois do passeio cultural pelo centro histórico (15h00). Será mais uma vez uma participação espanhola, com a atuação do Emsemble ]W[, com músicos de primeira fila da Orquestra do Festival de Lucerna, reforçados para esta apresentação por acompanhamento de piano, para interpretar dois quintetos para oboé, clarinete, trompa, fagote e piano, de Mozart e Beethoven.
A atividade pela biodiversidade (4 de Junho) propõe-se ir à descoberta dos monges eremitas da Junqueira, nesta que é quase uma fronteira entre Atlântico e Mediterrâneo. Tendo como pano de fundo um dos maiores complexos industriais do país – a central termoelétrica de Sines – os participantes do Festival irão à procura da presença dos monges eremitas de São Paulo da Serra de Ossa e do Convento de Nossa Senhora da Junqueira (1447).
Finalmente, a 17 de Junho, o concerto de encerramento trará a Beja, à sua Catedral, um dos maiores maestros da atualidade, Michel Corboz, para dirigir o Coro Gulbenkian, bem como Fernando Miguel Jalôto, no órgão, e Sofia Diniz, na viola de gamba. Este encerramento é consagrado a prelúdios e motetes corais de Johann Sebastian Bach.
A fechar mais uma edição intensa do Festival Terras sem Sombra, a atividade de natureza é também interessante: será percorrido um dos sete percursos pedestres que a Câmara de Beja instalou, que desce até ao Guadiana, entre azenhas de submersão e fortins. Chegados ao rio, os participantes irão avaliar a sua água, com um kit de análise.
Assumindo-se como « um hino ao Baixo Alentejo: à beleza dos seus espaços naturais e ao prazer da descoberta cultural», o Festival Terras sem Sombra é diferente. José António Falcão, diretor geral, explica que «a grande diferença é esta mescla de música, biodiversidade e património».
Além disso, trata-se de «um festival territorial», que não acontece apenas «num local determinado, mas em que se percorre um território, em que se convive com as pessoas nos concertos e nos percursos de biodiversidade, onde o aspeto humano tem muita importância».
José António Falcão faz ainda questão de salientar a «transversalidade» deste evento, que, «do interior alentejano até ao Atlântico», vive «de um território profundamente empenhado».
Todas as atividades do Terras sem Sombra são de entrada livre.
