This year’s ceremony coincided with the 40th Anniversary of the European Museum of the Year Award and the Council of Europe Museum Prize, the longest running and most prestigious awards in Europe aiming to recognize excellence in European museums and to encourage innovative processes for the benefit of society

The results of the 2017 Awards are as follows:
The European Museum of the Year Award 2017 goes to MEG – Museum of Ethnography, Geneva, Switzerland. The museum received the EMYA trophy, The Egg by Henry Moore, which it will keep for one year.
This is an excellent example of a living museum and a multicultural story open to everybody. After more than one hundred years since its first opening, MEG has been able to successfully transform its mission and approach its audience in a new way. Indeed, the two main guidelines driving MEG are multiculturalism and an interdisciplinary approach. The museum’s enormous ethnographical collections from all over the world are almost completely accessible online and are displayed in the most unbiased way, letting the objects speak for themselves as much as possible.
Commitment to diversity leads MEG to continue ethnographical research worldwide, on the one hand, and to plan socially engaging museum programmes in collaboration with other institutions on the other.
The museum’s entire performance is based on the belief that the protection and safeguarding of cultural diversity and the heritage of different cultures must be transmitted to the broadest audience possible.

Museum of Ethnography in Geneva wins European Museum of the Year award.
The European Museum prize of 2017 was awarded today to the Museum of Ethnography of Geneva, Switzerland, was announced in Zagreb at the ceremony of delivery of the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA).
For its part, the Kenneth Hudson Award went to the Museum of First President of Russia Boris Yeltsin, in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
The awards ceremony was announced at the ceremony of the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA) in Zagreb, which marks the 40th anniversary this year.
The Leiria Museum was also distinguished in the ceremony with the Siletto Prize, one of the most important awards of the European Museum Award.
During the ceremony, honorable mentions were also given to the Confluence Museum in Lyon (France), the York Art Gallery in York (United Kingdom), the Silesian Museum in Katowice (Poland), the Heraklion Archaeological Museum in Heraklion (Greece) and the National Open-air Museum of History and Urban Culture in Aarhus (Denmark).
The Honorable Mention of Sustainability was awarded to the Visitor Center of the Sempach Lake Ornithology Institute in Sempach (Switzerland).

Museu de Etnografia de Genebra vence premio Museu Europeu do Ano.
O prémio Museu Europeu de 2017 foi atribuído hoje ao Museu de Etnografia de Genebra, na Suíça, foi anunciado em Zagreb na cerimónia de entrega dos European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA).
Por seu turno, o prémio Kenneth Hudson Award foi para o Museu do Primeiro Presidente da Rússia Boris Yeltsin, em Yekaterinburg, na Rússia.
A atribuição dos prémios foi anunciada na cerimónia de entrega dos European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA), a decorrer em Zagreb, e que este ano comemora o 40.º aniversário.
O Museu de Leiria foi também distinguido na cerimónia com o prémio Siletto, um dos galardões mais importantes dos European Museum Award.
Durante a cerimónia foram ainda atribuídas menções honrosas ao Museu das Confluências, em Lyon (França), à Galeria de Arte York, em York (Reino Unido), ao Museu Silesiano, em Katowice (Polónia), ao Museu Arqueológico de Heraklion, em Heraklion (Grécia) e ao Museu Nacional a Céu Aberto de História e Cultura Urbana, em Aarhus (Dinamarca).
A Menção Honrosa de Sustentabilidade foi atribuída ao Centro de Visitantes do Instituto de Ornitologia do lago Sempach, em Sempach (Suíça).

O prémio do Museu Europeu do Ano (EMYA), organizado pelo European Museum Forum (EMF), foi apresentado na Cerimónia de Premiação de 2017 realizada em Zagreb, na Croácia, em 6 de Maio de 2017.
A cerimónia deste ano coincidiu com o 40º aniversário do prémio do Museu Europeu do Ano e do Prémio do Museu do Conselho da Europa, o prémio mais antigo e mais prestigiado da Europa com o objectivo de reconhecer a excelência dos museus europeus e incentivar processos inovadores em prol da sociedade
A cerimônia contou com a presença de mais de 200 pessoas de 29 países europeus.
Os resultados dos Prémios 2017 são os seguintes:
O Museu Europeu do Ano Award 2017 vai para MEG - Museu de Etnografia, Genebra, Suíça. O museu recebeu o troféu de EMYA, o ovo por Henry Moore, que guardará por um ano.
Este é um excelente exemplo de um museu vivo e uma história multicultural aberta a todos. Após mais de cem anos desde a sua primeira abertura, a MEG conseguiu transformar com sucesso a sua missão e aproximar a sua audiência de uma nova forma. Na verdade, as duas principais diretrizes que dirigem MEG são multiculturalismo e uma abordagem interdisciplinar. As enormes coleções etnográficas do museu de todo o mundo são quase completamente acessíveis on-line e são exibidas da maneira mais imparcial, permitindo que os objetos falem por si próprios, tanto quanto possível.
O compromisso com a diversidade leva o MEG a prosseguir a pesquisa etnográfica em todo o mundo, por um lado, ea planejar programas de museus socialmente envolventes em colaboração com outras instituições, por outro.
Toda a actuação do museu baseia-se na crença de que a protecção ea salvaguarda da diversidade cultural e do património das diferentes culturas devem ser transmitidas ao público mais amplo possível.
