Chinese historian Wu Hung, who specializes in the field of art history, is the Cultural Institute's guest this year as part of the 2017 edition of the "Lectures of Cultural Masters".

The initiative, which has already brought to the territory intellectuals such as the Portuguese philosopher José Gil, the Swedish sinologist Goran Malmqvist or the English creative Charles Landry, father of the concept of creative city, is scheduled for the afternoon of August 27 at the Convention Hall of the Macao Science Center.
Born in the mainland province of Sichuan, Wu Hung, 72, will give a lecture entitled "Moving Pictures: A Gift from Ancient China to the World of Art," in which he will review some masterpieces from ancient China. Among the paper-scroll painting work to be addressed by Wu in the 2017 edition of the "Cultural Master Lectures" are works such as "Luoshen fu tu" (The Luo River Nymph), "Han Xizai Yeyan Tu "(Han Xizai night entertainment) or" Qingming shanghe tu "(The Qingming festival along the river).
A permanent member of the United States Academy of Arts and Sciences, Wu Hung currently holds the Harrie A. Vanderstappen Chair in the Department of Art History and the Department of Languages and Civilizations of the Far East at the University of Chicago. To the distinction, the academic, critic and curator still joins the status of director of the Far East Art Center and consultant to the Smart Museum of that institution of higher education.
A noted historian, Wu is one of the world's leading specialists in "paper roll painting," an artistic expression with a long tradition in China that has had a profound influence on other art forms.
The Cultural Institute organized for the first time the "Lectures of the Masters of Culture" in 2013, the year in which Taiwanese writer Chiang Hsun was invited to give a lecture in the territory.

O historiador chinês Wu Hung, especializado no campo da história da arte, é o convidado deste ano do Instituto Cultural no âmbito da edição de 2017 das “Palestras de Mestres da Cultura”.
A iniciativa, que já trouxe ao território intelectuais como o filósofo português José Gil, o sinólogo sueco Goran Malmqvist ou o criativo inglês Charles Landry, pai do conceito de cidade criativa, está agendada para a tarde de 27 de Agosto, no Salão de Convenções do Centro de Ciência de Macau.
Nascido na província continental de Sichuan, Wu Hung, de 72 anos, vai proferir uma palestra intitulada “Imagens em Movimento: Uma Dádiva da Antiga China ao Mundo da Arte”, em que vai analisar algumas obras primas da antiga China. entre os trabalhos de pintura em rolo de papel que deverão ser abordados por Wu no âmbito da edição de 2017 das “Palestras de Mestres de Cultura” estão obras como “Luoshen fu tu” (A ninfa do rio Luo), “Han Xizai yeyan tu” (Entretenimento nocturno de Han Xizai) ou “Qingming shanghe tu” (O festival Qingming ao longo do rio).
Membro permanente da Academia de Artes e Ciências dos Estados Unidos, Wu Hung é actualmente titular da cátedra Harrie A. À distinção, o académico, critico e curador junta ainda o estatuto de director do Centro de Arte do Extremo Oriente e consultor do Smart Museum daquela instituição de ensino superior.
Historiador conceituado, Wu é um dos maiores especialistas mundiais na “pintura em rolo de papel”, uma expressão artística com uma longa tradição na China e que exerceu uma profunda influência noutras formas de arte.
O Instituto Cultural organizou pela primeira vez as “Palestras dos Mestres de Cultura” em 2013, ano em que convidou o escritor taiwanês Chiang Hsun para proferir uma palestra no território.
