For journalist and historian, local language is part of the identity of the people.
On August 25, 2016, the dialect and the accent of Piracicaba, a city that celebrated 250 years in that month, were registered by the Council of Defense of the Cultural Heritage of Piracicaba (Codepac), as historical, cultural and immaterial patrimony of the municipality.
A year later, the historian and journalist Cecílio Elias Netto considers that the recognition brought pride to the local people.

"This record as intangible heritage was fundamental, because the people now take pride in their accent and being a country man. After all, it's our identity and people recognize and understand it, "he says.
Cecílio is the author of the book "The dictionary of the caipiracicabano dialect - arc, tarco and verva", whose first edition was launched almost 30 years ago and brings together more than 200 pages with historical data and curiosities about the local vocabulary.
"Our language, our accent, is something that has always caught my eye. I always find it interesting, because it is such a differentiated thing. The staff spoke 'caipira' and I was proud to be a country man. And Piracicaba is the land of the caipiras, "he says.
Cecílio is impressed by the fact that, despite the diffusion of the means of communication and the transformations through which culture passes, Piracicaba maintains his language and still influences those who come from other cities.
"The interesting thing is that when an outsider comes here, she assimilates our accent. Besides, I've noticed that the people here have been proud of themselves, of our history. That's our identity, we should be proud to have that accent. "
Legislation and cultural heritage
The student of the law course of the Methodist University of Piracicaba (Unimep), Davi Rosário, is producing a study on legislation and its relation with cultural and historical patrimony. Among the issues addressed is the piracicabano accent.
"I have a relationship of proximity to the environment and I consider it fundamental to address environmental preservation. And the cultural patrimony is inserted in this question. By working on the importance of this preservation, we help maintain and strengthen it, "he says.
The student also considers it important to register the accent as intangible heritage. "It is part of the identity of Piracicaba and therefore, even if there was no such recognition, it would not end. But the registry strengthens and helps to make people aware of its importance, "says Rosario.
Education, communication and memory
With the aim of spreading the importance of intangible cultural heritage, a city group that includes teachers, cultural producers and environmentalists is developing the project "Educommunication and memory - cultural heritage in the media", through workshops with adolescents and young people in Public spaces such as the Prudente de Moraes Museum, Centro Cultural Zazá and Estação da Paulista.
With the use of communication tools, participants learn issues related to memory and equity. "The idea is to provoke and rescue local culture in communities, as well as to awaken a sense of belonging in these young people who will be great achievers in the future, seeking a fairer society in all its aspects," says environmentalist and photographer Bruno Fernandes, a Of the project organizers.
Among the themes studied is the piracicabano accent which, according to Fernandes, is related to the appreciation of the local culture. "Strengthening the piracicabana culture is knowing our origins, and with all certainty the piracicabano accent brings elements that can translate all this process", completes.

No dia 25 de agosto de 2016, o dialeto e o sotaque de Piracicaba, cidade que completou 250 anos nesse mês, foram registrados pelo Conselho de Defesa do Patrimônio Cultural de Piracicaba (Codepac), como patrimônio histórico, cultural e imaterial do município.
Um ano depois, o historiador e jornalista Cecílio Elias Netto considera que o reconhecimento trouxe orgulho ao povo local.

“Esse registro como patrimônio imaterial foi fundamental, porque o povo agora tem orgulho do seu sotaque e de ser caipira. Afinal, é a nossa identidade e as pessoas reconhecem e entendem isso”, afirma.
Cecílio é autor do livro “O dicionário do dialeto caipiracicabano – arco, tarco e verva”, cuja primeira edição foi lançada há quase 30 anos e reúne mais de 200 páginas com dados históricos e curiosidades sobre o vocabulário local.
“Nosso linguajar, nosso sotaque, é algo que sempre me chamou a atenção. Sempre achei interessante, pois é uma coisa tão diferenciada. O pessoal falava ‘caipira’ e eu ficava orgulhoso por ser caipira. E Piracicaba é a terra dos caipiras”, opina.
Cecílio se diz impressionado pelo fato de, apesar da difusão dos meios de comunicação e das transformações pelas quais a cultura passa, Piracicaba manter o seu linguajar e ainda influenciar quem vem de outras cidades.
“O interessante é que, quando uma pessoa de fora vem pra cá, ela assimila o nosso sotaque. Além disso, tenho percebido que o povo daqui tem se orgulhado de si mesmo, da nossa história. Isso é nossa identidade, devemos ter orgulho por ter esse sotaque”, completa.
Legislação e patrimônio cultural
O aluno do curso de direito da Universidade Metodista de Piracicaba (Unimep), Davi Rosário, está produzindo, como trabalho de conclusão de curso, um estudo sobre a legislação e sua relação com o patrimônio cultural e histórico. Entre os assuntos abordados, está o sotaque piracicabano.
“Tenho uma relação de proximidade com o meio ambiente e considero fundamental abordarmos a preservação ambiental. E o patrimônio cultural está inserido nesta questão. Ao trabalhar a importância dessa preservação, ajudamos a manter e a fortalecer”, afirma.
O estudante também considera importante o registro do sotaque como patrimônio imaterial. “Faz parte da identidade de Piracicaba e por isso, mesmo que não houvesse esse reconhecimento, não iria acabar. Mas o registro fortalece e ajuda a conscientizar as pessoas quanto à sua importância”, diz Rosário.
Educação, comunicação e memória
Com o objetivo de difundir a importância do patrimônio cultural imaterial, um grupo da cidade que inclui professores, produtores culturais e ambientalistas, está desenvolvendo o projeto “Educomunicação e memória – o patrimônio cultural na mídia”, por meio de oficinas com adolescentes e jovens em espaços públicos como o Museu Prudente de Moraes, Centro Cultural Zazá e Estação da Paulista.
Com o uso de ferramentas de comunicação, os participantes aprendem questões relacionadas à memória e ao patrimônio. “A ideia é provocar e resgatar a cultura local nas comunidades, além de despertar o senso de pertencimento nesses jovens que serão grandes realizadores no futuro, buscando uma sociedade mais justa em todos os seus aspectos”, afirma o ambientalista e fotógrafo Bruno Fernandes, um dos organizadores do projeto.
Entre os temas trabalhados está o sotaque piracicabano que, na opinião de Fernandes, está relacionado à valorização da cultura local. “Fortalecer a cultura piracicabana é conhecer nossas origens, e com toda certeza o sotaque piracicabano traz elementos que podem traduzir todo este processo”, completa.
