The National Museum of Fine Arts (MNBA / Ibram), in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), inaugurates this Thursday (10), at 18h, the exhibition School of Fine Arts: 1816-2016. Two hundred years building Brazilian art.
The show cuts the artistic production of the institution that formed - and still forms - hundreds of artists from the most different generations of Brazilian art.
According to the curator of the exhibition, Angela Ancora da Luz, who directed EBA between 2002 and 2010, "the presence of the school in the context of the Brazilian society revealed its identity by little known aspects, but of great social and political interest, besides Of its fundamental guiding principle: artistic teaching ".
The curatorial axis emphasized the School of Fine Arts as an institution that maintains and preserves a social, political and intellectual concern for individual differences, which does not prevent the formation of a body and an 'identity'. It was tried to show the differences and affinities in drawings, engravings, paintings, sculptures, installations, videos and performances.
From school to museum
Created by Royal Decree on August 12, 1816, the first seat of the School of Fine Arts was in the Travessa das Belas Artes, near Praça Tiradentes. The building, from Grandjean de Montigny, was designed to receive the then Imperial Academy of Fine Arts and was inaugurated on November 5, 1826.
"It was a school of great importance in the Empire and it was open to all who wished to seek the path of the arts, being accepted by the great masters of the workshops," says the curator. "What counted at the time of the selection was the talent, without restriction to the cultural degree, to the race or economic situation".
In 1908, already with the name of National School of Fine Arts, the institution moved to its second building, with project of Morales de los Rios, in Avenida Rio Branco - where today is located the MNBA. In 1975, the school moved definitively to the UFRJ rectory building in Cidade Universitária, shared with the Faculty of Architecture.
The show runs until February 12, 2017. The MNBA is located at Avenida Rio Branco 199, Cinelândia and operates from Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 6pm and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 1pm to 6pm.

Exposição no MNBA comemora os 200 anos da Escola de Belas Artes no Rio
O Museu Nacional de Belas Artes (MNBA/Ibram), no Rio de Janeiro (RJ), inaugura nesta quinta-feira (10), às 18h, a exposição Escola de Belas Artes: 1816-2016. Duzentos anos construindo a arte brasileira.
A mostra faz um recorte da produção artística da instituição que formou – e ainda forma – centenas de artistas das mais diferentes gerações da arte brasileira.
Segundo a curadora da exposição, Angela Ancora da Luz, que dirigiu a EBA entre os anos de 2002 e 2010, “a presença da escola no contexto da sociedade brasileira revelou sua identidade por aspectos pouco conhecidos, mas de grande interesse social e político, além de seu princípio norteador fundamental: o ensino artístico”.
O eixo curatorial enfatizou a Escola de Belas Artes como instituição que mantém e preserva uma preocupação social, política e intelectual das diferenças individuais, o que não impede a formação de um corpo e de uma ‘identidade’. Buscou-se evidenciar as diferenças e afinidades em desenhos, gravuras, pinturas, esculturas, instalações, vídeos e performances.
De escola a museu
Criada por Decreto Real em 12 de agosto de 1816, a primeira sede da Escola de Belas Artes foi na Travessa das Belas Artes, próxima a Praça Tiradentes. O prédio, de Grandjean de Montigny, foi projetado para receber a então Academia Imperial das Belas Artes e foi inaugurado em 5 de novembro de 1826.
“Foi uma escola de grande peso no Império e que esteve aberta a todos os que desejassem buscar o caminho das artes, sendo aceitos pelos grandes mestres dos ateliês”, conta a curadora. “O que contava na hora da seleção era o talento, sem restrição ao grau cultural, à raça ou situação econômica”.
Em 1908, já com o nome de Escola Nacional de Belas Artes, a instituição transferiu-se para seu segundo prédio, com projeto de Morales de los Rios, na Avenida Rio Branco – onde hoje situa-se o MNBA. Em 1975, a escola mudou-se em definitivo para o prédio da reitoria UFRJ na Cidade Universitária, compartilhado com a Faculdade de Arquitetura.
A mostra segue em cartaz até 12 de fevereiro de 2017. O MNBA fica na Avenida Rio Branco 199, – Cinelândia e funciona de terça a sexta das 10h às 18h e aos sábados, domingos e feriados das 13h às 18h.
