In October, for the first time in 46 years, Columbia's Apollo11 ​​mission command module will leave its prominent place at the equally famous National Air & Space Museum (NASM) in Washington DC for a tour of four cities.

The traveling exhibition called Moon Destination: The Apollo11 ​​Mission will visit the Houston Space Center in October, then the Science Center in St. Louis in April 2018, the Heinz Historic Center in Pittsburgh in September and the Seattle Flight Museum in March 2019, which will end the tour. In September 2019 the command module returns the NASM to be part of a new Lua Destination exhibition that is due to open to the public in 2021. The tour celebrates the approaching 50th anniversary of the first lunar expedition in July 1969.

The command module, manufactured by the North American Rockwell is one of three parts of the complete Apollo set, providing the space required for the three astronauts for most of the mission. The other two parts were the Service Module, containing the main propulsion system and "consumables" and the Lunar Module, called the Eagle used by Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin to land on the lunar surface. The third astronaut, Michael Collins, was in orbit. The Command Module was the only part of the set that returned to Earth.

No mês de outubro, pela primeira vez em 46 anos, o módulo de comando Columbia da missão Apollo11, deixará seu lugar de destaque no igualmente famoso National Air&Space Museum (NASM) em Washington DC para uma turnê, visitando quatro cidades.
