Monir Sharoudy Farmanfarmaian - Infinite Possibility. Works in Mirror and Drawings 1974-2014 opens March 16 at the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk. --- Monir Sharoudy Farmanfarmaian - Possibilidade Infinita. The work by Monir Sharoudy Farmanfarmaian shows the sculptures made over the 40-year career of the Iranian artist. After exhibiting at the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, the exhibition was also at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 2015.



"For the most part, the works selected belong to the artist's own collection, not publicly seen since the 1970s. They include some of their early mirror reliefs on plaster, on wood and a series of geometric works with large-scale mirrors Were part of the exhibition organized by Denise René in her galleries in Paris in 1977 and New York in the same year ", can be read in the document published in the Serralves Museum, at the time of the presentation of the work.



Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian was born in Iran in 1924 and attended the Faculty of Fine Arts in Tehran. During World War II he left the studies in Paris and, in 1945, moved to New York. At this stage, she studied design and worked as an illustrator for VOGUE. In 1957 he returned to Iran. The following year, his work reached the Venice Biennale.



The exhibition Infinite Possibility. Works in Mirror and Drawings 1974-2014, organized by the Serralves Museum in Oporto, will open next Thursday, March 16, at the Chrysler Museum of Art, in Norfolk, United States of America.

A obra da autoria de Monir Sharoudy Farmanfarmaian mostra as esculturas feitas ao longo de 40 anos de carreira da artista iraniana. Depois de ter passado pelo Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves, a exposição esteve também no Museu Guggenheim de Nova Iorque, em 2015.

"Na sua maioria, as obras seleccionadas pertencem à colecção da própria artista, não sendo vistas publicamente desde os anos '70. Incluem alguns dos seus primeiros relevos em espelho sobre gesso, sobre madeira e uma série de obras geométricas com espelhos em grande escala que fizeram parte exposição da artista organizada por Denise René nas suas galerias de Paris, em 1977, e Nova Iorque, no mesmo ano", pode ler-se no documento publicado no Museu de Serralves, na altura da apresentação da obra.

Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian nasceu no Irão em 1924 e frequentou a Faculdade de Belas Artes de Teerão. Durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial largou os estudo em Paris e, em 1945, mudou-se para Nova Iorque. Nesta fase, estudou design e trabalhou como ilustradora da VOGUE. Só em 1957 regressou ao Irão. No ano seguinte, o seu trabalho chegou à Bienal de Veneza.

A exposição Possibilidade Infinita. Obras em Espelho e Desenhos 1974-2014, organizada pelo Museu Serralves, no Porto, vai inaugurar na próxima quinta-feira, 16 de Março, no Chrysler Museum of Art, em Norfolk, nos Estados Unidos da América.
