The permanent exhibition of the Municipal Museum of Óbidos is a journey through the artistic production and religious devotion of the history of the Village. The collection witnesses the action of religious collegiate and the cultural enrichment marked by orders to some of the biggest names in Portuguese Art. It is worth mentioning the collection of paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries, which include works by André Reinoso and Josefa d'Óbidos.
The Museum was inaugurated on June 15, 1970, with the presence of the then President of the Republic, Almirante Américo Tomás, the Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon, Manuel Alves Cerejeira and several government officials. It was its first director the then president of the Chamber, Albino de Castro and Sousa (1922-1984).
The Municipal Museum integrates the Route of Museums of the West and is soothes of the Network of Museums and Galleries of Óbidos.

Two Maputo artists make art residence in Óbidos
At the beginning of May, Óbidos Rodrigo Mabunda and Samuel Djive arrived, two Mozambicans who traveled to this village to hold an artistic residence.

Outro dos antecedentes remotos que levaram à fundação do museu é reflectida a partir de algumas realizações culturais em Óbidos, nomeadamente a Exposição de Arte Sacra em 1954 e a Evocação de Josefa de Óbidos em 1959, produzindo-se um efeito de expectativa redobrada com o encerramento do “museu regional”, instalado no exíguo espaço da capela gótica de S. Martinho, onde existia uma colecção de arqueologia e fragmentos arquitectónicos, a maior parte pertencente ao tenente-coronel Luís Torquato de Freitas Garcia.

Dois artistas de Maputo fazem residência artística em Óbidos
No início do mês de maio chegaram a Óbidos Rodrigo Mabunda e Samuel Djive, dois moçambicanos que viajaram até esta vila para realizarem uma residência artística.
Alojados numa das casas do município destinadas para este efeito, os dois artistas vieram para se relacionar com o território, efetuando uma recolha do património material e imaterial do concelho e mergulhando na identidade e memória local através do contacto com os obidenses.
Nesta perspetiva, está previsto que os criativos realizem um conjunto de atividades com a população local, que contemplam ateliers nas Escolas de Óbidos, oficinas de rua gratuitas aos fins-de-semana e encontros no Museu Municipal de Óbidos.
Neste último espaço, Rodrigo e Samuel terão ao seu dispor a sala Romarina Passos, que renascerá agora como ponto de intercâmbio de saberes. Entre 29 de maio e 28 de junho, estarão de terça a sexta-feira das 10h00 às 12h00 e das 14h00 às 16h00, em registo de trabalho ao vivo para que todos possam acompanhar o processo criativo dos dois artistas e exponenciar a troca de valores e experiências. As obras construídas durante a presença no território serão mais tarde expostas pela Rede de Museus e Galerias de Óbidos.

Dans cette perspective, les créateurs doivent mener une série d'activités avec la population locale, notamment des ateliers dans les écoles d'Óbidos, des ateliers de rue gratuits le week-end et des réunions au musée municipal d'Óbidos.
Dans ce dernier espace, Rodrigo et Samuel auront à leur disposition la salle Romarina Passos, qui renaîtra maintenant comme un lieu d'échange de connaissances. Du 29 mai au 28 juin, ils seront ouverts du mardi au vendredi de 10h00 à 12h00. et à partir de 14h00 à 16h00, dans un registre de travail en direct afin que chacun puisse suivre le processus créatif des deux artistes et exposer l'échange de valeurs et d'expériences. Les œuvres construites pendant la présence sur le territoire seront exposées plus tard par le Réseau des musées et galeries d'Óbidos.
