MUSEUMS AND ELECTRONIC TABLETS. - MUSEOS Y TABLETAS ELECTRÓNICAS. -

The use of electronic tablets is here to stay, with applications that spread rapidly all over the world. IPads, and other tablets, combine the portability of smartphones with multimedia and processing functionalities as advanced as those of desktop computers (Educause, 2011). In addition, they act as platforms that deliver content and as a tool that allows the user to have a certain degree of interaction. On the other hand, the size of the screen is adapted to both an individual use and a socially shared digital experience.

Due to this peculiar set of characteristics, museums have recently started using tablets to facilitate the achievement of specific objectives, paying special attention to the creation of experiences that facilitate accessibility, social interaction and, ultimately, learning.

Museum professionals are increasingly emphasizing the need to develop new ways of involving not only individual visitors during, before and after their experience in museum facilities, but also those who come with a companion or in a group. In fact, visits to museums are mostly social experiences, and "designing technology that fits with the way that most people already live museums is better than trying to force the implementation of individual applications for social experiences" (Simon, 2010).

Taking into account the "key" audiences of any museum, such as families and the elderly, we must integrate technology as soon as possible to become accustomed to tablets and their increasingly intuitive interfaces (Businessweek, 2011). As we said, the integration of these devices in the museum practices could be valued as a way to promote accessibility and social interaction, adjusting to the skills and preferences of visitors. In addition, tablets can enhance the museum experience for visitors with disabilities: for example, people who need text cartels to be read aloud or in large print, would benefit from the use of these devices (NZMuseums 2010, Stempien, 2011). Finally, the specific characteristics of the tablets can also respond to the needs of museum professionals, evaluators and visitors scholars, who have already begun to use them for their research.

We do not stop working to generate an open vision about the proper use of technology in the contexts of museums, and in the use of tablets in particular. Given the current shortage of evaluation studies and relevant literature, experiences on the use of these technologies has been carried out through interviews with museum professionals and extensive access to Internet sources. Considering that Apple iPads seem to dominate the market today, many of the conclusions focus mainly on these devices of the manzanita. Let's summarize the most relevant conclusions that we have been able to reach:

iPads as interactive tools for museum interpretation.

Due to its specific characteristics, iPads and tablets allow multimedia experiences that facilitate not only the participation and enjoyment of visitors, but also their process of creating meaning and sharing the experience of the museum in a social context. Being versatile iPads and tablets by definition, they can be used as interpretation tools in different contexts and in a variety of ways.

The interpretation can take advantage of the portable nature of the devices provided by the museums, or through the personal iPads of the visitors (Bring your own device), downloading applications developed by the museum itself to improve the experience of the public before, after and during the Visit the same or a heritage site. In the future we will no longer need the "data expense", since we can connect them and use them with bluetooth in combination with the beacons.

As a result of our research, the following epigraphs summarize the variety of uses of iPads in the field of the museum, paying special attention to the degree of interaction and participation that the devices and their context of use allow.

A) Integration of iPads in museums and in the exhibition environment:

The devices support specifically developed applications or communicate content provided by the museum to allow visitors to further explore issues related to collections, the building and objects. The iPads must be located in specific areas of the exhibition environment and offer a free choice opportunity to interact with collections and exhibitions, whether permanent or temporary. Your installation can take the form of:

Digital tags: iPads that are usually found near the objects on display to which they refer, such as at the Oakland Museum in California (Oakland, USA); they can be used to replace conventional printed posters or to complement them, providing additional multimedia content. They can also be used to allow a certain degree of interaction.

Kiosk type devices: available in specific sections of the exhibition environment; The iPads are secured in a kiosk and can be used as touch screens.

Partially portable devices: located in specific sections of the exhibition environment. These devices can be completely portable for visitors, but their use is limited to specific areas of the exhibition environment. This restriction is usually due to security reasons and the delivery of energy. There is also the possibility of making iPads available near specific objects or display elements without compromising the characteristics of portable devices. The devices are usually secured to a surface through cables.

B) iPads as completely portable devices that visitors use in museums.

The devices are rented or given free of charge at the information desk, before accessing the exhibitions; Some security measures can be proposed. However, if the museum has developed an application that can be downloaded in the building itself or on the Internet, visitors can also manage and use their personal devices. The public should be aware that applications compatible with a single operating system may have been developed by the museum. In any case, the applications developed for iPads and smartphones seem to be the most used.

And finally…

C) iPads as interpretation tools used by museum educators and teachers, during group visits.

These types of devices are mainly used by museum educators and teachers to provide visitors with additional multimedia content that can facilitate fun, accessibility and understanding. Multimedia resources, when administered by teachers, do not impose a continuous physical interaction of the visitor with the device, although there may often be a temporary contact. Generally speaking, iPads are used during group tours as handheld devices, displaying multimedia content such as photos, images, audios and videos. But, as far as we know, applications specifically developed for museums are not yet widely used in this context; in fact, they are not a common currency, despite being very practical and accessible solutions.

Exhibitions have seen scenarios for "selfies". Hyperconnection and dispersion of the public challenge museums and art exhibitions. - Exposições viram cenários para “selfies”. Hiperconexão e dispersão do público desafiam museus e exposições de arte.

In art exhibitions, it is increasingly common to see visitors doing selfish artworks. Leonardo da Vinci's celebrated Mona Lisa has turned into a backdrop for countless unknown faces. At the Museum of Contemporary Art of USP, the preference is for the giant cat created by the artist Nina Pandolfo. Taking a picture next to you is irresistible. Hence the importance of this year's theme of Museum Day: Hyperconnected Museums: New Approaches, New Audiences. The event is promoted by Icom - International Council of Museums.
"The theme of this year's Museum Day reflects the impact of digital media and the internet on museums both in terms of their internal organization and the ways museums relate to their audiences and vice versa," explains Giselle Beiguelman , artist and professor of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of USP. "The ever more intense use of cell phones has transformed some exhibitions, particularly those of the general public, into true selfie points. Not that doing selfie on exhibits is a problem. The problem is to completely empty the experience, suppressing contact with the work by merely recording a self-portrait and using the disclosure hashtag. "

In this context, Giselle points out the relevance of the educational project of the 33rd Biennial, which takes place from September. "This project has the suggestive name of Invitation to Attention. It was intended as a comprehensive system, which could function not only for this edition of the event, but as a public education project. It privileges the experience and the contact and to enter the process it is necessary to put the cellular in airplane mode. "

Daí a importância do tema deste ano do Museum Day: Museus Hiperconectados: Novas Abordagens, Novos Públicos.

Museum of Religious and Traditional Art in Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, houses the city's history.

The city of Cabo Frio is far beyond its natural beauty, the municipality holds an incredible history, where much of it is told through the pieces exhibited at the Museum of Religious and Traditional Art of Cabo Frio (MART). The place is considered one of the most important tourist-cultural spots in the city's history.

According to historical records, the place was for a long time the Convent of Our Lady of the Angels and housed Portuguese and Brazilian friars, as well as a novitiate school. With Franciscan architecture, it began to be built in 1686, and today it has a collection consisting of terracotta and polychrome wood from the 17th and 18th centuries. It also has recently restored 19th century reference works.

When walking through the Museum it is possible to know elements preserved from the old Convent and religious images from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, several of them delivered to the museum by locals. In 2017, the old religious building completed 331 years and MART launched the book "Cabo Frio - 400 Years of History (1615-2015)", available for free download, which brings together texts from local historians about the Baixada Litorânea Fluminense, the Convent Our Lady of the Angels and the museum.

In addition to all the historical material, which the museum houses daily, space always has a temporary exhibition. Who visits the museum until July 7, finds the temporary exhibition "Viva Santos Reis!" Of the anthropologist and curator Daniel Arrebola.

The exhibition brings several objects from the Folias de Reis of the Southeast region gathered during years of research. In partnership with regional photographers, the exhibition shows images of various groups, highlighting their regional differences; and numerous objects, dresses, masks, flags and instruments of Folias. The Lagos Region is represented in the exhibition by Folias de Reis de São Cristóvão, Estrela do Oriente in Arraial do Cabo and Estrela Dalva in Praia do Siqueira.

The Mart is located in Largo de Santo Antônio and operates from Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 5pm and Saturdays and holidays from 2pm to 6pm. The scheduling of guided tours is by telephone (22) 2646-7340 or by e-mail mart@museus.gov.br

In a church with baroque images from the 16/17 centuries, this museum features religious art and cultural events.

Регіон Лагос представлений на виставці Folias de Reis de São Cristóvão, Estrela do Oriente в Arraial do Cabo та Estrela Dalva в Прайя-ду-Сикейра.

Some pieces from this period have been highlighted, such as the exhibition on jewelry Elsa Triolet, companion of Aragon, writer and resistant.

Many visitors were also present to see or review one of the most beautiful collections in France. The offbeat animations are also a way to bring a new look at the collections and get out of the dusty image that we can have museums. "That's what the visitors like, yesterday they were more than 600 to taste the crazy years.
