Flexibility, inclusion and spontaneity are at the heart of the new design of the Toronto Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), which has reopened at a new address on Saturday, 22 August 2018.
Located at 158 Sterling Road in West Toronto, the renovated 1919 building hosts the new museum dedicated to Canadian and international contemporary art.
It occupies five floors and offers over 5,000 square meters of exhibition space, five times more than its former location on Queen Street West.
On the ground floor there is a public entertainment area, a café, a shop and an outdoor square. On the second and third floors will be presented major exhibitions.
In the fourth, MOCA has dedicated half of the floor to studios for about thirty artists in residence. The other half will serve as a stage for performances, installations and video projections in particular.
The first exhibition BELIEVE which is proposed until the month of January presents no less than 16 artists.
Among them, Nep Sidhu, an emerging artist and rising star, winner of the 2017 Toronto Friends of Visual Artists Award.
His work is based on textiles, ancient, contemporary and created by weavers from his native region, the Punjab.
On Saturday and Sunday, the public is invited to discover the new museum for free and to meet artists.

Souplesse, inclusion et spontanéité sont au coeur de la nouvelle conception du Musée d'art contemporain (MOCA) de Toronto qui a rouvert ses portes à une nouvelle adresse samedi, 22 de setembro 2018.
Situé au 158 Sterling Road dans l'ouest de Toronto l'édifice de 1919 rénové accueille le nouveau musée consacré à l'art contemporain canadien et international.
Il occupe cinq étages et propose plus de 5000 mètres carrés d'espace d'exposition, soit cinq fois plus qu'à son ancien emplacement de la rue Queen Ouest.
Au rez-de-chaussée, il y a un espace d'animation public, un café, une boutique et une place extérieure. Aux deuxième et troisième étages seront présentées de grandes expositions.
Au quatrième, le MOCA a dédié une moitié de l'étage à des studios pour une trentaine d'artistes en résidence. L'autre moitié servira de scène pour des performances, des installations et des projections vidéo notamment.
